Exhaust For Supercrew (4.6L)(5.4L)
Trying to search around for an aftermarket catback exhaust system for the mighty 4.6L Supercrew 4x4. I would perfer the Gibson product due to the additional torque guys are getting out of them...sound is not important to me.
Has anyone installed a catback exhaust yet on the 2001 Supercrew 4x4(4.6L)or(5.4L) yet??
If so can anyone pass me the part number....performance shops are playing dumb up here in Canada and saying that the part does not exsist yet....is this true?
Please help!

Gibson (and Borla) have confirmed the cat-back systems (& of course the part numbers) for the 139" WB extended cab short bed are the same as the SuperCrew. I sure hope the're right, because mine is in transit to me now.(Dual sport SS part #69200).

Ive read a lot of threads in the exhaust and engines forum about adding cat-back systems. From what Ive gathered, the exhaust system on the 5.4 is already nicely tunned. An upgrade does little other adding noise. A few have claimed a few extra ponies, but they have also added that their hp/torque curves have been pushed to a slightly higher rpm - which actually results in less power off idle. Mods for the 4.6 have slightly better results.
* the best bang for the buck still seems to be an engine fan change.

Actually, a good cat-back exhaust system works very well on these vehicles, but ther have been some that cvan shift the power band up higher.
Most of these V-8 F-150's will see about 10-12 hp froma good cat-back system. As long as you don't go with somethig like a tru-dual setup wirth 3" pipes, you shouldn't have a problem losing low-end torque, and having it shifted up higher in the power band as a result.
Gibson, for example, makes a few different systems for eth various F-150's, and there is one of them that will lose low-end torque and get back higher rpm horspower gains, but if you talk direclty to them, they can advise you on which system to get.
The key to this is not reducing the actual velocity of the spent exhaust stream by using a too-big diameter in the exhaust pipe, as that will reduce the scavenging effect, that *that* is what causes the loss in low-end torque.
The other thing to remember is that while I do feel good cat-back systems are worthwhile, it's not going to be a "big" gain.
The top 3 best "bang-for-the-buck" performance mods to do to these vehicles is first to optimize the powertrain programming with the Superchip, as long as you don't mind using premium gas. This also tends to help gas mileage a bit as well. Second is to use one of the airbox elimination kits, such as Airaid's or K&N's FIPK kit. They show consistent gains of 12 hp on the 4.6, and 14 hp on the 5.4 motor in the F-150. Then third comes the cat-back exhaust systems, with gains running about 10-12 hp for the "good" systems that are properly flow-engineered for this application.
It would be interesting to see exactly how much changing over to electric fans will add to rear-wheel horsepower, we know they obviously work well. Though they do not actually increase the engine's raw power, they do reduce power losses from driving the fan, and therefore do add power getting to the rear wheels quite nicely. It's a mod well worth doing, absolutely.

4Door,
Which engine do you have? Have you noticed any loss in low end torque with the super truck?
Im also curious where you ordered yours (truck performance center is the only place I have heard of). Thanks!

Triton46, I have the 5.4, I put system on when I got the truck so I can't tell the differance in low end torque. I got mine from truck performance in CA. for $279 and free shipping. I'm very happy with it, it's very easy to install. GOOD LUCK
