Post Moon Roof

My dealer called to let me know he had a truck on his lot just like the one I have on order, only this one has a moon roof. Not sure if I want/need a moon roof. Does anyone out there with the moon roof have any concerns, problems, etc. with them???

Sonoma Super Crew,

Go for it ! I like the moonroof on mine.
I like the extra light inside the cab. You can either open it all the way or it can lift the back of the glass up for ventilation. If the sun gets too hot, you can slide the shade closed.

The only problem with it is that at speeds above 50mph I get some wind viabration on my head. The wind deflector is too small and useless. I just shut it if it bothers me too much. Pictures at www.over.to/SuperCrew .

go for the moonroof. You can always keep the shade closed and you'll never know the difference. Had mine for almost 72 hours now (Wedgewood Blue Lariat w/ Moonroof) and it's great. Taking the one your dealer has will start your enjoyment sooner!!!

Sonoma- I must agree with others, the moonroof is sweet and does give the truck a different feel. The unit is the same or very similar to the one in our Expo. We have never had any problems with that unit. Don't let that "bonus" get away!!!

I love the moonroof but hate the vibration above 45 mph. It is great in town but I have an appointment with the dealer to get it fixed (?!) so I can use it on the highway. I have had many moonroofs in my other vehicles but never seen such a cheap wind deflector before. My '95 explorer has a great metal unit that is hinged and works well. This plastic piece of junk just flexes up and down with no hinge and does not work. If I lift it up slightly the wind/and noise alleviates substantially.
Still, I agree it is a must have option!!

Also, I have gotten a lot a comments about this truck. Just today a guy in a new XLT supercab 4x4 followed me back to work and got out to check out my Truck. I get compliments on this thing every other day. LOVE IT!

Cool

Sonoma,
Ditto everyone's remarks. Even if you don't open it, it's worth it for the view.

Get It! I wasn't planning on getting it either, but I love having it. On the interstate you can pop up the back for ventilation. I really like the open feel the extra light gives to the cabin. Nice addition I think. Go for it. :-)

Well i plan on getting a moonroof with mine but keep this in mind. I work for a fire dept. and made an accident with a vehicle that rolled. They had a moon roof and when it rolled the driver's hand went out the moonroof and when it hit the pavement it scraped her hand off at the wrist. You know there are alot of things out there that provide for greater injury but the possibilities of it happening are slim.

Extinguishfire, your post makes me want to keep my windows closed too. Ow!
Skyjet: No luck yet with the roof problem. My salesman is supposed to pick up my truck one day this week to get the problem looked at. I will let you know what happens. Hopefully everyone with a roof will complain so Ford will do something about it.

I hate to post against the grain here, but here goes...

My moonroof doesn't make any more noise or vibration than I would expect. I don't hear any vibration (at any speed) at all. Yes there is wind noise. But no more so than comes from my side window being down.

I realize that some of you are comparing your SCrew moonroof against others you may have had (have) in other cars. Perhaps it is loud...but not to me. Maybe I'm just lucky (so far).

My truck was built the week of May 1st. Could they have made a change already to the moonroof that would explain why I don't notice what most of you are?

maz,

Take a picture of the wind deflector at the front of your moonroof and post it here if you can. I,d like to see if it is different from mine manufactured March 20th.

Like Maz, I also have no complaints about my moon roof, noise, vibration, etc. like several people have posted. That started me thinking about an e-mail I received back in March from my friend at the KC plant. Here's the part I'm talking about.

"Starting next week we will be back up to 10 hour days and producing 1100 trucks a day. the only thing that we are still having issues with are the moonroofs and that is being ironed out this week."

If I remember right she had told me they were having problems during the first month or so working out problems with the moon roof. It's possible that trucks with Jan/Feb build dates could have concerns. My build date is March 3, 2000 but so far the moon roof seems fine.
Although this is my first moon/sun roof, the small 3/4" wind deflector seems a little small.
It will be interesting to see what Cpafay's dealer says about it.
