Post Paint Protection

Just got off the phone with the dealer; my new SCrew was delivered last night!!! I need some help, though-- the dealer's been really good about not pushing add-ons... but recommended paint protection for the vehicle. Any thoughts on whether or not it's worth the expense?

I'm sure that your dealer is very nice. But this is one effort at an upsell.

I strongly reccommend you decline their offer. Check a similar price at a good detail shop if you are concerned...Paint these days is so much better than 20 years ago.

Just my opinion,
Joe

Joe:

Thanks for the comment. My first impulse was to decline it, but thought I'd get a second opinion. I just called the dealer back and said "no thanks!".

BTW- I pick it up Wednesday!!

I too refused the "teflon paint protection" and the upholstery protection back in 1998 on my Ranger, and now my 2001 Supercrew.

I would suggest taking it home, washing it with a wax company's car soap, dry it, and use Mequire's "Yellow Wax" (No. 26). I had no problems at all on either truck. Using it right from day one saved it from those wicked swirl marks from having to buff first. No need to 'de-swirl' or 'clean' when you do it yourself right away. Wipes off with little or no powder too! My green 98 ranger looked brand new when i traded it in for the SC. They thought I had just detailed it. Just used that yellow wax.

The Mequire's no. 26 has all the fancy elements as your dealer has- Shucks- it might even be the same wax they use!! Everyone has their preferences though. Find one that you like.

Question

Does anybody know about the clearcoat on the SCrew, just found this on the web;

"DO NOT WAX a clearcoat car.

Instead, wash, rinse, and then use our spotfree spraybar to apply a final rinse of ulra-ure spot-free rinse water. "

Any opinions

Dutchy, where is that web info from? sounds like a car wash. I do own a carwash, so my truck gets washed nearly every day, I use the "clearcoat protectant" but I still wax the truck. And on the days when i'm feeling lazy I dont always dry the truck after washing it, If I use the clearcoat protectant (spray wax) and the spot free rinse at the wash right before I head home, the truck us pretty dry with minmal spots by the time I get home. Have i rambled on enough yet? wax your truck and wash it regularly and forget the dealer stuff...
