Question Passenger Side Air Bag

Here's one I haven't seen. I have a Expedition which has a very nice on/off switch for the passenger side air bag. But the SCrew I just purchased does not? Has any one added it? Can I use the same switch panel from the Expy? How hard is it to rig the switch to the circuit?
Thanks

RCmerlin,

This topic has be discussed in great detail over on the diesel board (I realize you've probably never looked over there as it wouldn't pertain to you but the information you are looking for is the same). For some reason, Ford decided to include the air bag switch on regular and super cab models and omit it from crew cabs. I guess they just assumed that families with more than three kids or kids who like to ride up front would be buying minivans instead of crew cabs!!?? If you want the switch installed you have to get written permission from NHTSA...more complicated then it may seem. Anyhow, here are a couple threads I looked up for you to read:

Hope this info helps!

While mulling over options with my dealer, I asked why the Supercrew did not have the shut switch like my '98 Ranger. He stated that the reason behind that was the children could only sit in the front seat of the Ranger (in a safety seat). With the Supercrew, and the fancy child safety seat friendly rear 60/40 split, the child safety seat (and the children) are to be placed in the rear. No need for a shut off switch. Personal preference took a "back seat" on the idea of letting the passenger decide on being safe or airbag-less. That is what I was told. :-)

Thank you for the info. I will go and check out the Diesel site (you are right I would never have looked there). I got a similar answer from my dealer, which I thought was lame since my F150 supercab is configured with same seating config as my new SuperCrew.

I was hoping I could just purchase a replacement panel with the correct cutout and switch, then get it wired using the supercab wiring scheme.

What are the restictions for a child in the middle of the front seat? Will the drivers or passenger air bags reach to the middle were a child may be seated? I have 3 boys and would like the youngest(age 8, 70lb.) to be able to sit in front at times (stress relief). Would this be safe? This will be the first vehicle I have owned with a pass. airbag.

Minncrew,
We have the same problem, I put our 7 year old up front in the middle on long trips, 3 kids in back on long drives can have it's moments. I just make sure the seat is all the way in the back position. If both bags were to go off I don't think the middle passenger would get the direct impact.
