In-dash CD/Radio Problems
just curious if any have had problems with their standard in-dash cd radio. i commute one hour each way daily and have noticed after 40-45 minutes...
a) when i adjust the volume, the sound will stop and come back on after a second or two, or
b) the radio will turn off completely.
seems to be more vulnerable when playing a cd. additionally, i'm suspecting it has to do with heat build up given the time delay and when i run the a/c i don't have this problem.
a 2000 f150 supercab buddy with the same unit told me he had his radio replaced after it started burning up cd's on a 10 hr journey.
please advise.

I have not had any failures (yet) with my factory in dash CD unit...but I have noticed the CDs get quite warm after prolonged use....warmer than other CD players that I have had.

The CD changer has a heat sensitive cutoff. Maybe that is malfunctioning. The owner's guide says it shouldn't shutdown until the internal temp. reaches 140f.

I don't have the in dash CD, I have the 6 CD changer behind the right rear seat. However, it will ocassionally skip very badly (it seems to get "stuck"). However, I have noticed the volume thing as well. It seems to die for a second or two when adjusted. Oh well, it could be worse. We could have engine problems. Neverthless, you expect more for 30k. It's time for a trip to the dealer.

Before you go to the dealer turn it up to half volume and put your ear by each speaker. Was washing mine Saturday and noticed the rear passenger side was cutting in and out.
If you could nag em a little about the volume and in-dash cd problem I'd appreciate it. I'm gonna wait a while longer and make a list of "fix-its".
