Question Trailer tow package

Looking at my salesman's SuperCrew today for the trailer pre-wire, I noticed that the ground for the brake controller is not wired directly to the negative of the battery, but instead to a part of the body. While this shouldn't matter, I know from experience that it does. When I picked up a new trailer 2 years ago the dealer wired the ground for the controller to the body. 2 controllers later (they each fried within a few minutes), he wired it to the battery, and this worked. Has anyone had any experienced with this (good or bad) with the SuperCrew? I'm thinking of having the ground on the brake controller harness wired directly to the battery.

While I cannot quote it chapter and verse, I do remember seeing a Ford service bulletin that advised that hookup to negative was to be to the BODY, not the frame -- caused me to think -- but that's what it said.

It seems that the battery's negative connection is no longer to the frame as I remember them to be.

Go figure.

Thumbs up

I've had my brake controller in my SCrew for two weeks now using the plug-in setup provided by Ford and have pulled a trailer for about 300 miles. No problems.
