Rick,
We need someone who works at the KC plant to clarify this mystery. I cannot understand the 2 tone paint being a reason for delay. They don't run out of paint! I can understand shortages from the suppliers on parts or optional equipment-especiallly if they did not accurately project the demand of certain items. I can understand deliveries to different dealers is based on priorities given to them by the by the "system"-a customer order has a higher priority over a
dealer "inventory" order. I also think the plant probably runs certain models together to achieve higher assembly line speed. "Today we do all SuperCabs or whatever". I think they try to ship units all over the country to build demand. I firmly believe there are so many variables, that we'll never understand why OUR TRUCKS ARE NOT HERE YET!

I know a girl at the KC plant, I'll e-mail her tonight and see if she knows anything about the two tone delay. I'm in the same boat.

Sonoma,
That's terrific. Now we'll have an "insider" to answer our incessant questions? (Do you suppose if we all send her our VINs, she can give us a personal status as the truck goes down the line?)
Whatever you do, don't post her email address!!!!

Here is part of a recent e-mail from a friend at the KC plant.

"Coming from a person that likes black trucks i would go with the Deep Wedgewood/Silver. it is a very classy combo. the 5.4 is not really all that hard to come by. we have had trouble with getting the fiberglass wheel wells from the supplier that is up to snuff with ford QA inspectors. Now this is not a bad thing...which would you rather have...a half *** job or oner that is built to last? now with any launch you will have engineers that will stop production becuse of a squeak in one unit...this is the reason for all of the delays.
if you are set on the red/silver...that is a popular combo and has been produced at a very high rate....so you could probably count on a fairly quick return on your truck...the dealer has access to the VIN of your truck...all you have to do is ask. they can call Vehicle Scheduling and they can give them a VIN. I you can get me this i can put a trace on it and tell you play by play on it if you would like. It is all up to how cooperative your dealer is."

*******Two Tone Update*********
Well, I got my question about the two tones back from my "penpal" back at the KC plant. The following is her response:

"Hey I told you that you could write me with any concerns an I meant it...anytime!!! there is a high demand for the two tones and that is where the delay is. petty much 9 out of 10 trucks that are the super crews are two tone. we have been doing really good as far as production is concerned. starting next week we will be back up to 10 hour days and producing 1100 trucks a day. the only thing that we are still having issues with are the moonroofs and that is being ironed out this week. so the two tones are delayed because of all of the orders and the delays on the moonroofs is an engineering thing that is being taken care of. i hope that helps a little. if you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask."

When I get a VIN number for my truck I'll ask her to check the status of it. Also, I'll see how see feels about checking others.

FYI:
I ordered a Green/Gold Lariat on Feb 28. A few weeks later I had a VIN # (no build date), but then the delay came along. A weekand a half ago I added the bed extender and moonroof. A week ago, my dealer called VOPC and spoke to an adviser there, who said it was to be built week of 4/24. Two days ago the status tape still showed no build date. I checked the automated line last night, and there was no update since 3/17. Checked again today, and the message says the last update was 3/28, and that the build date is still 4/24. So it looks like there's a delay between what dealers can find out with the advisers at VOPC, and what the automated service says.

I've got all the options except captain's chairs and entertainment system, and my priority is 9.

Cool

SonomaSCrew,
If you are a glutton for punishment, here's my VIN: 1FTRW08L41KD78316. I would love to get a status, because ever since I added the bed extender to the order last week, I cannot get any info on the VOPC line. And the dealer's order sheet merely says "release to plant" or something like that, with out a build date.

Thumbs up

Sonoma,
Your friend at the KC plant is terrific. I feel we're finally getting the real scoop on the SC production line "start up" problems.
Somehow, it feels better when you know why you're waiting.
BTW, today my dealer received his first SC with a moonroof. It looks and works fine. There is an inner sliding door that can close out all the light from the glass roof. Probably just like the Expy.
This all blue XLT had the 60/40 front seat with the folding armrest with the cupholders in the back of it (down low where your kids can kick them). The rear seat did NOT have the pull down armrest with cupholders.
