WHICH MOTOR?
IS THE 5.4 WORTH THE $800 I'M THINKING BETWEEN MILAGE AND SEAT OF THE PANTS FEELING
I'M LOOKING TO BUY A 2WD XLT
THE STICKER SHOWS ONLY A DIFFERENCE OF 2 MPG
IF THAT IS TRUE THEN I WILL GO FOR THE 5.4
ANY PROBLEMS WITH EITHER OF THESE 2000 MOTORS

Get the 5.4! I was on the fence on my Expy, but boy am I glad I got the 5.4. Power is excellent! Gas milage in mixed driving is 15-16. We usually get about 17-18 on the highway. Even at 1.50 per gallon, the difference in cost for gas between the two engines is small. They're both expensive right now!

Are you going to tow or haul anything with any regularity and over a significant distance? If so, the 5.4l is a must! Even if you rarely tow/haul, you will be pleased with the performance and power of the 5.4l. It's nice knowing it's there when you need it. I'm not knocking the 4.6l, it's a great engine, but, I did not even think twice about getting the 5.4l over the 4.6l in my Supercrew. My brother-in-law has a 4.6l in his truck and wishes he had the 5.4l. His mileage is only 2-3 mpg more than that reported for the 5.4l and that is under ideal conditions (highway cruising at a steady speed on flat terrain)
Go for it!!!! The 5.4l is a must for towing and acceleration. The increase in power and torque is an easy swap for 2MPG. My friend has a 4.6 in his truck and said towing is very sluggish and acceleration is decent. It is well worth the extra money.
