Brake line replacement Help
Was driving today very close to home when my brake line started leaking.(pedal went to the floor) Drove home nice and slow got under truck and saw it was leaking from right above fuel filter on drivers side. I was wondering how everyone is making the repair when this happens to ford trucks. Which is very common the brake lines rust out. can i buy braided lines? I would like to replace from the fuel filter there is a connection at that location back to the rear end fitting. the truck is a 2001 supercrew 4x4 37.000 miles thanks for any suggestions Dan
First, I am NOT and expert, but brakes are something you can not fool around with. I would assume that the complete line is available from Ford or a local parts store. That would be the same size with all fittings attached. Unless you have flaring tools to make your own lines from tubing, replacement lines are probably the best way to go. Changing size, diameter, etc may affect the operation as all of this is engineered into the system. I also have to assume that you have ABS and changes might affect ABS as well.
If the line is rusted in one spot, it may also be rusted in other areas. CHECK IT ALL from end to end before you proceed. SAFETY FIRST!!!

Ive done this a few times on other vehicles... parts stores dont carry preformed hard lines and neither do the dealerships.. they'll sell ya a big coil of hardline, fittings and flare tool though! Best bet is to get a pre-flared piece of tubing, then rent a flaring tool, get the necessary fittings and then 2 "joiners" pieces...
