What broke....under my center cap?

So for a week or so I was hearing noise from my drivers side front wheel. I thought it was dirt or rust on my calipers. Needless to say the noise went away. Then I stuck in traffic and heard a rattle.

I removed the centercap off my wheel thinking I'd find a lug nut that fell off. But instead it was a right in the center. There's a cap similar to a bearing cap and behind it is a threaded rod that I think attaches to the axle and it has a nut on the end. I think around a 1/2". I'll try to get pics up tonight. Truck seems to drive just fine, but that's gotta be there for a reason.

Understandable. But it's not 2wd. It's 4wd. I think it's part of the driveshaft personally.

yea it dawned on me this morning what he was talking about, its the axle nut on the end of the axle shaft, that keeps the axle mounted into the hub.

Sorry for the delay in pics. THe truck is still at my dealer. But it is driveshaft related they just ordered a new one. This one is pretty new as the cv went bad on my first. They just replaced it 2 months ago with this one that just broke again. At least it's covered under warranty. I'll still try to grab a pic when I get it back,
