Brake Shifter Release issue

Hey guys, been lurking since I got my 07 SuperCrew XLT last october. In the past few days or so I have noticed a strange ticking sound when I press the brake pedal to release the column shifter. I have traced the sound to be in the steering column and due to not having the right tools I couldn't get the entire shroud off to further investigate.

here is what I think is going on. I'm imagining that the shifter release is electrical (silonoid) and not mechanical. It does sound like something is loose. My truck is at 36800 miles and I seem to be have more and more issues. I don't want to go to the dealer to have it fixed as I am probably capable. But I wanted those that know a bit more to chime in and help if they will.

Thanks,
Philip

holy crap uh..........oh yeh we had a diesel truck do this it ended up being the multi-function switch. which is what turns your blinkers on and windshield wipers and 150,000 other things. it'll start getting worse before long it'll start sounding like a monkey with a snare drum. it won't hurt anything it just gets annoying. hope this helps

as far as i remember it still is a mechanical shifter, but i have seen stranger things on those trucks. is it a 4.6 or a 5.4l? Lariat?

it is a 4.6L. However I talked with the service shop yesterday and they said wait. That it was the Brake Transmission Interlock Solenoid and not to worry. The part is $60, so i think im just going to wait and see what happens. Thanks for the reply though.

Ahhhh . . . Go Jackets!

Sorry, could resist. Alumn.
