Question Cargo Area Box

Anyone know where I can get a ruck box for the 06 Lariat Edition? Polished Diamond Plate preferably. It's the only thing I'll be allowed to attach my CB antenna to since the GF won't let me put holes in the bed until it's paid off, wwhich will be 5 years from now, LOL.

Do you mean a tool box like these? You can get one at any car and truck accessories store and many auto parts stores.

That's what I'm looking for, but are there manufacturers that are a little less pricey? My limit is $250-300

I have never owned one or researched them, but I see them at Home Depot/Lowes, Sears, Pep Boys, etc. Pep Boys/auto parts stores would probably be on the cheaper side.

Take a look at the ones that sit down in the bed and flush with the bedsides instead of on the rails. They look better IMO, especially if you don't need a bunch of extra room, but you can still mount your CB whip to.

Or you could get this.

I found this posted on the body page, and it's the same qestion I have:

"Does anyone out there know how the OEM factory installed bed rail caps are installed on a 2006 F-150? I'm looking to remove them without damaging them for reinstallation."

If I can't afford a bed tool box for CB install, then I'm going with a stack pocket mount, but I'd rather not destroy what is probably a $60 part doing so. Thanks again. Sorry for all the questions, but so far, you have given me EXCELLENT answers to my questions. Who knows, I might learn a thing or ten!!

You DO NOT want to take them off. They are installed with clips that you can't get to in order to release them. The local Ford body shop couldn't even get them off for me without breaking the retaining tabs. I had another body shop tell me that they would charge you more to take them off than it would cost to buy new ones.

Do NOT remove the bed rail caps. You will regret it.

So can you get the cb antenna mount in there with out messing them up? It's starting to look like the Lariat isn't CB friendly unless you drill a hole or two somewhere.......

There are many alternatives to drilling a hole. For example, a few posts above this one, there are 2 links showing stake hole mounts. Is there some reason why you must mount the antenna on the rail???

The stake hole is where I am planning on mounting it, but you need to remove the cap slightly to do so. Ergo, with out a tool box or access to the stake pocket, it seems like the alternative is drilling. I'll go with out before I out a hole one in my truck! LOL!

I'm assuming you have a low power CB... If that's the case, a magnetic antenna stuck in the middle of your roof would be the best placement.

That's the case right now, but eventually, I plan to go a little high end. That and the ant cable is already run to the bed. The question still remains; can I get that stake pocket antenna mount in w/o screwing up the rail cap (and why the hell did Ford decide to do that anyways?)?

The answer is yes! Did you even look at the links posted above? I'm confused why you keep asking the same question when an answer has been provided. If those aren't what you want, you need to do more searching. Members here aren't going to search every possible attachment available to provide you a list.

You now know it's possible. Now all you have to do is keep searching or buy the bracket and install it. What more do you want?

Yes, I did look at the posts above. I appreciate the fact that you helped. I tend to be one of those folks that likes cut and dried answers to items, somehting that can be blamed on 20 years of that same requiremnt in my job, lol.

I see the "Senior Member" tag you have and realize that you have a whole slew ofd instant understanding of all things truck. I've owned my truck for a year and been able to enjoy it for 6 months of that year due to deployments. SO, cut a newbie some slack, and let me fumble around for a bit, LOL. I'm here to have fun, relax and try to make a few small changes to my truck to get where I like it. If I seem a bit clueless, well, I am. My apologies.

Thanks to all who posted a bit of info to help in this decision. My gf came up with another idea. In the interim, I'll be using a mirror clamp mount with longer bolts, and bit of rubber, and clamp it to the forward edge of the bed using the top 2 bolts. As I said, it's interim, but it should work for now, LOL.

Gotta love the new guys right?
