Towing almost to the max on an 03 screw
Towing almost to the max on an 03 screw
I have a 03 5.4 ltr Screw. I want to tow a 6500 lbs travel trailer 2 times a year over 5000 km each. Who has done it and what are your thoughts the dealer said go to the max. I have been towing 5400 lbs trailer all over Toronto to Florida or Georgia many times and no problems is another 1000 lbs that much of a difference?
If you are comfortable with the 5400 pounds, I think you will be fine with 1000 pounds more. Just watch that rear axle weight. Are you using a WD hitch and proportional brake controller?
Thanks
I tow with a prodigy brk controller, 750 WD hitch with the twin cam anti-sway system. 110 - 120 kms per hour or 60 or 70 mi per hour on the interstate. I set up everything myself works great. 6 years ago it took me a bit sorting out the weight ie how much to load in up front in the trailer etc after that it has bin a breeze. The truck has just over 100000 on it 40 % of it trailering. I only ask about the extra 1000 lbs as the sales man said no problem. I think if i wanted to buy a park model those guys would say its towable by a f150. I keep flip flopping on the weight but for the money this trailer is a steel even if it cost me a bit more in gas. As i see it we will have it for another 8 years. I would probably change the truck for sure before then. Even another f150 like a 2008has a bigger towing capacity.
The trailer in question is a springdale 268bh 5700 dry gvwr 7300
The experience you all have is valuable comments appreciated

My 01 got totalled by an illegal w/ no insurance and replaced it with an 05 Screw 4x4, 5.4 3.73 axle. THe 01 towed well. The 05 has had nearly 10K lbs behind it and was fine on the hwy.....
I towed 2 very heavy loads from B.C. to Alberta last sommer 1st was a 1955 GMC 450 welding truck with a heavy steel deck. It towed fine on my 10,000lb car trailer I averaged 12.5 mpg 2nd. trip I towed a self dumping 12,000lb trailer full of wood, load was so heavy I only had 3/4 inch of spring travel left, this trip I got 14.5 mpg Could hardly tell load was behind me. I used my Bi-Tron octain boost with my fuel conditioner which gave me 110 octain, lots of power
Hello, I am about to install the same controller. Can you post some pics of it mounted in that location.
Thanks

Okay made the trip no issues towed 7600 lbs all the way. Way down overdrive off a lot but with overdive left on, On the way back no issues even saved 2 tanks of gas. I was worried but no more nice truck
2 issues. (1) Although your truck looks good lowered, that is probably all it is good for now - to look at. (2) Those U-Haul trailers are the worst towing trailers that I have been around. Towing what you have in that picture your truck should not even break a sweat (you either).
