2004 and up question

I am sure that this has been asked in the past, but I want a fresh thought. I am looking at a 2004 F-150 Lariat, crew cab, 4x4, loaded. It is a very very clean truck, but it has very high miles 160,000. It seems to run and drive great. What do you think of a truck like this? I would like to know what you think it is worth and if you would buy it. My first thought was no, it has too many miles even though it is a super clean truck. Then I though, well it has to be all highway miles (which are not as bad) and it has been very well taken care of. I think the price is right but would like to hear from the pros.......

I'd agree. It's a roll of the dice with that many miles. You could be in for a big expense in a short period of time. I'd personally spend more $ for a lower mileage truck.

i agree. spend extra money for one with half of those miles. 160k, parts will be failing in the near future.

If your willing to pay for a few powertrain and engine failures in the later future, maybe offer them a low price, a few thousand below what they're asking so you get a good deal. Not saying that it would fall apart, but it would be wise to run an $29 carfax.

I have a 04 Screw.........

and I have 80K on it. In another 80K miles i will be more than ready to get rid of that sucker. I would stay away unless they are coming off the price in a huge way. Good luck man.

Thanks for all the help. I changed my mind and went with a NEW 08 Screw 4x4, and of course I had to go with the 5.4. 23 miles is alot better. Oh, by the way they wanted $9000 for the 04 with 160,000 miles.

Good choice going new, great time to get one with the dealerships trying to push them so much. Any pictures of it yet?

Man you guys must not take care of your trucks, getting rid of them so soon.

I would only buy a high mileage truck if the price was right. That said, I bought my truck new and am not planning on getting rid of it. It will be a high mileage truck.

Same here. 76,000 and still going great. Have no desire to for a new one.

That is quite a switch, from a 160,000 mile 2004 to a new 2008. I bet you made the right choice.

$9,000 for that? I just bought a 05 perfectly clean fully loaded lariat with 30k miles for $16,200.

Hurricane Ike destroyed my 01 supercrew lariat and bluebook was $7,000 with 100,000 miles on it. Insurance company gave me $7,000 but didn't total it and I sold it for $4,000. So essentially, I sold the truck for $11,000.

I might be right there with you, as I think I will wait for the next body style. Or, it might just happen that the 09's grow on me, but I guarantee Ill rack up some mileage before that happens.

Just not a fan of the boxy front facia. Taking Americans #1 truck and trying to give it the look of a Shabby from the front.
