Just ordered an 08 SCREW Lariat

HI all! I ordered a new 08 Lariat today Super CREW loaded with everything except NAV, also has chrome package. This is the first Ford truck I have owned. It is the firs Ford I have owned since I was 18 years old (many years ago hehe).
I sold a 94 Toyota pickup (what is now known as a Tacoma) that had 194K miles on it that I bought new. I wanted a full size truck and to be honest, the F150 was the only thing out now that I liked. It will be a beautiful truck. I was a little concerned about the gas milage so the dealer suggested that I get the standard rear-end. Saying that it would slightly help the milage. It is the 3.73 Reg Axle Now Keep in mind that I TOW NOTHING AT ALL. I also NEVER GO OFF ROAD. This will be a daily driver and my regular vehicle to drive um...wel daily.

Can anyone offer advice on this axle? I can change it tomorrow if I need to but just do not know enough about it.

Thanks!

You can't change it. Your dealer is BSing you. The 3.73 is the only one available (as far as ratio) with the 18's that come with the Chrome Package. The 4.10 isn't available on the Screw, and the 3.55 is only available with 17's now, which don't come with the Lariat trim... only 18's or 20's for the Lariats, which require the 3.73 rear end.

I've had F-150's with all three of the gear ratio's currently offered. I prefer the 3.73.

I've always had a limited slip rear end, so I have no idea if the regular rear end will save you any gas.

Apples to apples comparison...

Some numbers from someone who's had both axles... My '02 screw Lariat with 5.4L, 2WD and 3.73 LS rear end averaged right at 13 city.

My '08 early production s'crew Lariat w/5.4L, 2WD and 3.55 LS rear end and 18's averages 14.5 city (I go easy in stop and go stuff w/no highway). (I bought mine in Sept 07 so it has 18's)

Bottom line is you're gonna have a sweet ride either way and F@&# the gas bill. Safe luxury is worth a few $ in gas and chrome is all good. -H

Thanks guys for the replies. You are right, it will be a sweet ride.

Only problem I have now is waiting another 4 weeks for it to be built and delivered could be as long as 8 weeks according to the dealer. Oh well. Maybe Ford will up the rebates even more by then!

I've never been able to wait. I just have my dealer locate the exact truck I want and have it shipped in. Even coming from half way across the country, it has still been cheaper to ship one in than having one built to order.

The 94 Yota I just got ride of would not run on anythig but 93 octane. If I put anything else in it, it would rattle like h3ll. Was that way form day 1. Dealer even suggested it.
That was 14 years ago when it was practically free

87 is all you need unless you throw a tuner or a blower on it.

Great!

Another question if anyone knows.

My dealer must ride the short bus. The one we ordered has the leather trimmed captains chairs. Does that automatically put the center console with the shifter in place? He does not seem to know and i have told him that i will not buy it if does not have that. He is "checking on it" (for 4 days).

Thanks! 1 week down a 5 or 6 till it gets here!!!

Yes, captains chairs and the flow thru console w/"floor shifter" go hand in hand.

It won't be another 5-6 weeks. I ordered mine approx. 3 weeks ago. It's already built and awaiting shipping, should have it in T minus 10 days. It's these last few days that are more agonizing than the weeks worth...
