Triton Towing

Hi

Just came across a specification that said the 2001 Triton gros tow is 7700 and the smaller motor is 8000. I have a 2001 SuperCrew Lariat with the 5.4 Triton I thought that towed more then the smaller motor....

Thinking about getting a travel trailer (25-28' length) gross wt is between 5-5.5k lbs anyone towing travel trailers with the Triton and tow package?

I got an 01 with the 5.4 and tow a 20 footer through the mountanins in Alberta and BC. The trailer dry is 4000 lbs and I have no problem doing 110-120 km/hr up 95% of the hills.

Cheers

Looking at ford.com it says with 3.73 gear on a 2008 5.4 gross is 9300 lbs and the 2008 4.6 with 3.73 the gross is 6600 lbs but with 18-20" rims you have to take 500 lbs. off the gross capacity. I have a 2006 with a 5.4 triton and 20" rims and I bought a 31' bumper pull travel trailer and I pull it with no problem. It weights (loaded) 6300 lbs. The gross weight inside the driver side door says 8800 lbs and I have a towing package.

It's not that simple. You just can't say a 5.4L can tow XXX and a 4.6L can tow YYY. The gross tow capacity of the truck depends on cab, engine, wheels, 4X2, 4X4 and differential. There's about 60 different "packages" listed in the manual. I was unaware any 4.6L was rated higher than a 5.4L for towing.

I have no problem towing a 25 foot travel trailer (about 5500 pounds) through the mountains in WY with either my F-150 or Expedition. You know you're towing something, but the trucks have no problem going 65 MPH through the mountains with the over-drive turned off.
