2004-2008 improvements?

I just sold my 04 S'Crew Lariat to private buyer at retail price. Already I have withdrawal symptoms. Have there been any signifigant improvements form '04 til now('08)? Any degradations?

Your 2004 is the fist year of this generation F-150, a latter model 2006+ will have all of the 1st year kinks/Bugs worked out, as every new model has. I personally would not buy a new 2009 F-150, even though I'm not in the market for one, however if I was I would wait a year or two 2010-11......

Thanks, I agree on first year models. I was thinking about a '07 or '08.

I had an '05 FX4 Screw and now a '07 KR Screw. I say with complete confidence that my '07 is a better truck. There has been some small changes over the last couple years that has been talked about on here.

a few 08 changes...

Just drove a bunch of 07s and one '08... For the relatively small diff between 07 and 08 features, I'd have gotten an 07 and saved about $2K if the color combo I wanted was anywhere in GA (believe me, my dealer tried hard to find one and so did I over the 'Net)... Here's what you get for going 08 over the 07...

Backup camera option replaces the distance sensor option. You can see what you're about to back over instead of hearing the beeps telling you you're hitting it (which I did on a test drive )!

Nicer chrome touches on the 6 disc changer dials and larger controls (on Lariat trim level at least)

About $1,000 more (than an 07) in trade if I trade again in 4 years. I figured it was a wash for me to get the 08 with the current incentive levels. Now, if Ford does a Nissan-esque $5K off the leftover '08 F150s when the 09 F150 comes out, that'd be a deal!

In my case, my Dearborn-made 08 also came with 3 broken or misaligned trim pieces inside (broken left grab handle to dash clip) and outside (front wiper grill and rear bed cap misaligned). Must have had new people on the August assembly line. Hope the rest of the truck holds up!

Otherwise, check the link below for the rest. Other than a few "last of the body style" special edition trucks, not much new for the typical XLT/Lariat/KR content level trucks.

Really not much improvements from 2005-2008 besides options/packages. 2006 got 20" OEM wheels and round fog lights. 2008 gets backuo camera and Sync. Somewhere in 2005 the 6.5' bed Screw came around. The Supercharger came for the Harley Davidson in 2007. But mechanically, they're all the same with minor trim differences considering same model.

I'd look for clerance deals on a new 2007 model around $12k off MSRP.

Why when you can get a 2008 for $9-10K off sticker if you know how to deal. I ordered my 2007 FX4 Supercrew in March of 2007, and it arrived in April 2007 for almost $9,900 off sticker.

Becasue it is November, not April. $9k off a 2008 model or $12k off 2007 model.

I have an 05' screw and wouldn't see trading for another truck up to the 08s just b/c even if there is a slight change b/n the year models, mine is almost paid for. Can't see getting screwed by trading up on a truck that hasn't changed MUCH since 04'.

The '08 (and '07 as well, I am told) got shortie headers from the factory, at least on the 5.4L engine. All 5.4 engines made after 10/06/07 got redesigned heads and different spark plugs to improve/eliminate the frozen spark plug probelm with engines made prior to that date. (If you are not familiar with the frozen spark plug issue, use the search function...much has been written about it).

My 04 lariat is much nicer than my friends 07, interior wise. Exterior wise they are the exact same.

I'd be interested on this "header" thing. Last I read it was a farce, but I'd like to know for sure.

Also, the back-up camera does not "replace" the back-up sensors, it is an additional option. I have seen several trucks with both options installed on the same truck.

Another option available in 2008 is the cargo management system. Kinda cool, but pricey.

2008's also have the remote start as a factory option, too.

Ditto. My '07 FX4 SCrew is exactly the same as my '05 FX4 SCrew. The '07 is a definitely a better truck. Build quality is better, ride & steering is better and the engine is more responsive. The '07 has none of the squeaks, chirps and occasional electrical hiccups I experienced in the '04 and '05 models.
