Problems

I don't know of any other place to actually post this sort of problem, that's why I have decided to just post it in here, but if it is wrong to put it here, then I'm sorry about that and please just move it if you need to do so.

Aside from that, I have a 2004 Ford F-150 SuperCrew that I got about 3 weeks ago. The problem that I'm having is that the bed bounces around at about 55 MPH to 60 MPH and then it just stops once I get either above 60 MPH or below 55 MPH.

Do any of you know what might be causing this? Personally, I went and got the tires balanced and rotated. That's the only thing that I have done right now, because money is somewhat tight around my house.

When they did this at the place that I went to, they said that the rear passenger tire had some buldges on it that were making it not look so great. They already stuck the tire back on before I could see this for myself, but could that be causing the problem? Such as making it bed bounce in the back the way that it does?

By the way, I'm a young guy that doesn't know that much about trucks, but I'm not stupid either, you know?

So for those that might read this, please just keep that in mind and try to teach me something. I'm here to learn as much as possible about my truck and the Ford motor company as well.

Now, would it be that tire that could cause that or no? I figured it would cause the truck to bounce around at even 35 MPH or lower or higher if that were the case, but could I be wrong about that? Such as it only will do it at those speeds cause of whatever reason?

Seems sort of weird to me, but like I said, I don't know everything in the world.

Overall, I was going to buy a new set of tires to see if that would help. Because I know that the tires that are on there aren't brand new and I would like to get some that I enjoy myself.

I would appreciate it if anybody could throw me a bone about this problem and help me out. I would greatly appreciate it, because I'm one that is somewhat of a perfectionist at times and I just can't stand the ride to work and home.

Also, I suppose it could be the suspension or shocks even? I'm just throwing stuff out there, but please help me out, I would really appreciate it greatly.

If you can't feel the problem in the steering wheel or the seat (vibration, shimmy, or the like), then I sugest inspecting the frame mounts on the box. It is very unlikely a tire, because like you said. Even an unbalanced tire would shake at any speed.

I actually can feel it in the seat and steering wheel when the back of the truck starts to shake at that speed. The only thing that seems weird to me is that if it was something wrong with the frame mounts or something of that nature, wouldn't it do it at any speed or even increase shaking and out-of-control feeling by going 70 or 80? Cause when I go above 60, it just stops.

But then again, I can't rule that out with what you said either. Thanks for the tip and suggestion.

Hopefully others will shed some light on this issue also. It's great to get a variety of opinions so I can get all things checked out at once, rather then hearing one thing and going and then coming back and hearing another and so forth, you know?

Thanks again, F151.

Sounds like a driveline vibe. I had a driveshaft replaced because it shook at certain speeds per a tsb, can't remember the number.

I think I might take it to the local Ford dealership and get it looked at by them, because I honestly don't trust some other places that I know of right now.

Plus, I have a friend who works there and I'm sure he can hook me up or something, you know?

Anyway, thanks for the responses. Wish there were more, but that's always something that could still happen in this thread.

All in all, I have it inspected and checked out and go from there, unless of course some of you around here come up with more ideas.

Just got to thinking about a few things and could the suspension come into play with the problem that I am having right now? I got to reading around on the internet more and more. I found many others who have had bad suspension or struts going out and it causing a bouncy ride and bed while driving.

I could be completely wrong on that issue or idea, but who knows, if anybody else has suggestions. I'm willing to hear and listen with all ears open right now.

Also, if you suggest that I get something looked at or fixed, do you think that you could add the price of what that might actually cost me to have done? It would help if I sort of new that, because I can't just throw out $1,000's of dollars to get stuff looked at right now.

I don't know that this will be the case since you said you have a friend that works at the dealership, but be prepared for them to tell you it's "normal". I seem to remember Ford saying the bed shake was normal because the frame is so much stiffer than the previous generation of trucks. I would still talk to your friend and have him pull up the list of TSB's for your truck and just go down the list if it's possible. You never know what else might be found that needs some attention.

Could be that the previous owner had a flat, pulled the stem valve, over filled with "green stuff". Sometimes it won't show up on the balancing machine. They will have to pop the tire/s from the wheel/s to verfiy.

The "green stuff" can become blobbed at certain speeds and it can/will cause that kinda of problem.

Had same problem on my 2004 FX4. Took it to the dealer multiple times. Initially they said it was "normal". I refused to believe this and demanded they look at the problem. To back up my belief that it was not normal, we took a new truck for a drive and could not reproduce it. They started by tightening all the bolts, balanced the tires, replaced parts of the suspension, replaced the rear tires, replaced the rear window, and multiple "adjustments." Still had the shake in rear. The bed continued to bounce and shake. You could feel it in the steering wheel and in the seat of your pants. They finally said that it was normal again. At that point, we were moving out of state and I knew I would be trading the truck after we moved, so I quit fighting with them. I bought a 2007 and have had no problems.
