2007 SCrew 4x4 - 5.5' bed or 6.5'bed??
Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a new 07 4x4 SuperCrew, but am having some trouble deciding on the 5.5' bed or the 6.5' bed. From what I've been reading a lot of you guys have some 07 SuperCrews so I'd be interested in what made you decide on the long or short version.
I do some occasional lumber hauling, and have never been shy of filling up my 2001 Ram 1500 up with mulch. That's why I am having a hard time deciding on the bed length.
Believe it or not, a UPS truck backed into the Ram, and I've really always been a Ford man, so I'm looking now.

6.5' wasn't an option on my 2005, but considering how often I haul next to how often I would need the extra foot on the bed I would get the 5.5' again.
Also, I am able to park my truck in my garage and would not be able to with the longer bed. And it helps when in parking lots with narrow isles, which there are far too many of in my area.

I had a 6.5' bed and now a 5.5' bed and don't miss the foot. The extra foot is cheap, like $150 and it allows for the larger gas tank that I'd want. But it comes with a couple feet larger turing diameter and a foot longer would make the garage tight for me. Not worth it for me, but some people don't care as much.
8' lumber requires tailgate down with 6.5' bed for 5.5' bed. I use the sliding window for 16' lumber anyway.

The 5.5 bed looks better and it actually handles better. Both my 2005 and 2007 FX4 SCrews with 5.5 beds are a heck of a lot easier to park and handle better on/off road than the 6.5 foot bed SCrews we have at work. The 6.5 is just long and difficult to back out of parking spots.
I haul lumber all the time. That big ole tail gate makes up for any lost bed length (when it's down).

I got the 6.5'. I don't find it difficult to park and I like having the same payload as my old truck (98 F-150 Supercab with 6.5').
I would definately get the back up sensors regardless of which box you get. The tailgate in these trucks is high and the sensors are real nice for backing up into a parking spot.

6.5 all the way. I've hauled a couple of things and if I would have went with the 5.5, no way would it have fit. Plus I think it makes the truck look way better and proportioned. 6.5 is my vote!!
as far as people saying the 5.5 looks better , maybe in some cases .
but if you look at my truck i think you would say the 6.5 looks better, on My truck.
looks totaly depend on the color choice.

Get the 6.5' bed! There is no real difference in turning or parking compared to the 5.5'. The garage parking may be an issue. You need about 21' of depth to park. I think the 6.5' beds may be an easier sell in the future too.
The payload is actually less as the GVWR is the same for both and the 6.5' bed weighs more. And it has to have a larger turning diameter because the steering rack is the same and the longer wheelbase means wider turns.
If it's a city/suburban truck, 5.5' bed. If you never park in a garage or go shopping, get the longer bed. Test drive them both. You may or may not notice, depending on what you expect.
