Questions on upgrades to my 2007 Screw
Questions on upgrades to my 2007 Screw
I have a couple of questions that I wanted to throw out there regarding my 2007 Super Crew 4x4 with the 5.4L and tow package.
I have the 20" wheels with Pirelli Scorpion tires on them. I am looking to make the truck look better by way of leveling the front with the rear and putting on new tires and wheels.
I have searched around and it looks like there are a couple of different options to gain the 2 or 2.5 inch altitude adjustment needed to level the truck out. Any major differences or issues with the different options (Rough Country's 2.5" leveling kit vs Auto Springs leveling kit vs any other)
I am looking to get new wheels and tires as well. This truck is my daily driver and therefore I do not want to go too extreme (I also have a 1991 fullsize Bronco that is my off road toy and built to extremes).
I was thinking that a 33" or maybe 35" tire would fit after installing the leveling kit. This truck will not see any off road, but wanted to make sure that I did not go too small (with the 33" tire) or go too big and have rubbing issues (with the 35" tire). Any comments on experience?
The wheels are also up in the air - what size would work best with the set up mentioned above. I am not interested in any chrome wheels or wheels that are more expensive than the tires, just something that looks good.
I am thinking that a 15 x 10 wheel may not work on this truck.
Lastly, I have the tires and wheels that came on the truck with approximately 1,000 miles on them. Does anyone think that wherever I buy the stuff above from would want these tires and wheels or am I better off trying to sell them on my own?
Thanks for the comments!

Measurements with 2.5" AS Leveling Kit and 1.5" AS AAL installed and after alignment.
Before (Stock):
Left Front - 37 3/8"
Right Front - 37 3/4"
Left Rear - 39 3/8"
Right Rear - 39 1/2"
To bottom of Left Mirror - 50"
To bottom of Right Mirror - 50 1/2"
After 2.5" AS and 1.5" AS AAL and alignment:
Left Front - 40"
Right Front - 40 1/4"
Left Rear - 40 7/8"
Right Rear - 41 1/4"
To bottom of Left Mirror - 52 3/8"
To bottom of Right Mirror - 52 5/8"
I went with the 2.5" and the AAL as the 2" would of made the front sit slightly higher than the rear, plus I wanted a decent amoutn of lift.
As far as the wheels and tires go, I am waiting on my 35x12.50 R20's to arrive at the tire shop so that we can try them on my aftermarket wheels (20" x 8.5" MB Predators, 25 mm Offset, 5.75" Backspacing). If they fit without rubbing, etc..., then I will have 35's on my truck. If not, then I will downsize to a 33x12.50 R20 on the wheels with the leveling kit.
AutoSpring claims that you can fit 35's on the stock wheels, but only 33's on aftermarket wheels. I am going to try the 35's since my aftermarket wheels are the same size (just different offset/backspacing) as the stock wheels. We'll see sometime next week when the tires arrive.
As for your stock wheels/tires, put them up in the classifieds. I sold mine for $1,200 to someone locally (right now they have 3,100 miles on them).

Does the front end need 2" or 2.5" to make the truck level?
I am thinking that 33" tires as I would be looking to get aftermarket wheels.
I will test the waters in the classifieds.
Thanks again!

Tyler (h.m.f.i.c.) got around 2.5" with a 2" kit, so if that is the case, then your front will be higher than your rear.

I was looking at the kit (excluding the rear blocks and rear shocks) from Rough Country:
http://www.roughcountry.com/ford_f150_leveling.html
Sounds like I need to keep doing some research on this.
Thanks!
I would go with the AutoSpring kit as it is a great quality item (nearly identical) and $40 less.
Not to mention, free shipping and the guys as AS stand behind everything they sell.
Just because the Rough Country kit says 2.5", you still may get more.
Also, in mid 2006, the F-150's started coming slightly higher in the front (less rake front to rear) from the factory. This is why the 2.5" kit will make you higher in the front on a mid 2006 or 2007 where you would be dead on level with a 2004 or 2005 (my buddy has the 2.5" kit on his 2005 and it sits on the money level front to rear).

I installed a 2" AS kit on my 06 and it sits very close to level (within 1/4" inch). The smallest wheel you can go with is 18" as the brake system was upgraded in mid 2005. With a 2" or 2.5" lift the 35" tires on a 18" wheels will rub just a bit and the lower valance will need to be trimmed a little, not sure about the 20" wheels. I have 275-60-18's (stock) on my truck now and it is a 32" tire, so I'm not sure what size tires to get when it's time. My brother in law and I installed the 2" on both of ours and it will take about 1.5 hrs for one truck. There is a great write up on here also. Do a search for what you need and I'm sure you will find some info, as it has been covered numerous times.

Go with the AS kit you wont regret it. As far as the 2 or 2.5 thats up to you. I think the 2" is made for 4x2's and the 2.5 is for 4x4. I have the 2.5 on my 07 4x4 and sits just right. As far as wheels and tires I have 305/55/20's and I have no rubbing at all.
Don't forget you will have to get an alignment after all is said and done.

I will definitely be getting an alignment as well.

I am off to do some additional searching on the forum for leveling kits.
Thanks!

I am thinking that a 15 x 10 wheel may not work on this truck.

When looking at new tires (to be used with the stock 20" wheels) would I be correct that I need to look at 33" x 12.50 x R20 tires?
