My truck did not come with it. In 6 months I have backed into two cars which I could not see over my tailgate or in the mirrors.
Wouldn't own another truck w/o the sensors, especially when hitching at trailer.

Just remember to go slow, much over 3mph and they don't warn you quick enough... great for maneuvering in parking lots though!

Search the forums for HYDROLOCK. The '05's had a different vendor for the FI's I think. If they stick open, it's can be a disaster. This is the only problem that I would consider huge. The rest are nuisance things, like rattles, etc. Far as I know, it's pretty much limited to the '05s. $24 is a little high at 30K+ miles, IMO.

Just FYI for the OP, I bought my 05 screw XLT, loaded pretty much everything but no leather or moon roof, leveling kit with 33x12.50x20's on chrome wheels, 37k miles for 24 flat. The truck is very, very clean and doesn't look like it has ever seen dirt. I found some trucks for cheaper (but usually had more miles and no extra stuff) and some for more (had less miles) but I really liked the look of this one and the price was middle of the road so I snagged it.

Even if ou are only looking used, look at the www.Fordvehicles.com website and build your own. The trims/options/feature content hasn't changed that much since 2004.

The only thing I recommend because I don't know what equipemnt you want is the 5.4L and 3.73LSD axle. There is no reason to get the 4.6L or 3.55 axle ratio. Fuel mileage is not better, but performance is.

Depending on your budget, Ford should be clearing out new 2007 models for $10-12k off MSRP as they have in the past.
OK..now ya'll got me scared..i JUST bought my truck.and it is an '04 model.is the shorter bed the only problem?or have there been engine problems and such? And lemme tell ya..with a lady driving this truck 50% of the time,i LOVE the back-up sensors...

The short bed was the norm until '06 when you could get the standard short bed. I haven't had any real problems with my '04. You got a good looking truck. BTW - I HATE when my wife takes my truck.

It's all good dude. Just 'cuz you didn't know about it doesn't make it BS. There's a number of posts here about it. Mostly happened on the '05's. I couldn't care less either way. The guy asked a question. He was given valuable information, like it or not.

The 5.4L '05s also have the issue with the spark plugs corroding and potentially breaking off in the head.

Here's my 04 FX4. I mainly use it for work in the oil fields, and I don't think I'll get another when the lease comes due in October. Its been a good truck and I haven't had any mechanical issues other than a tear in a rubber boot on the back brake caliper. Its a great truck in town, but not a great work truck for me, IMO. Here are the personal issues that have me looking for something else, maybe some have been resolved since 2004.

-Jack storage location is plain retarded. I fold up the back seat and carry cargo in the cab often. I could use the 40% space the jack wastes.

-The turn signals don't cancel nearly soon enough, drives me crazy. Don't like the high/low beam selector system either.

-Not much room to get in and out. In muddy conditions you can't help but get mud all over the door, seat, etc.

-Vibrates at speed, unless on perfect pavement.

-A truck this doggy and slow should at least get better mileage than the competition.

-Low ground clearance - good thing it has skid plates, because its guts hang out like an old man's untreated hernia. It drags and hangs over ground that Rams float over.

-The Ford optional side steps are complete crap. Get them wet, muddy, or covered in snow and you might as well walk blindfolded through a minefield wearing cement shoes as try to use the steps to get in the truck. Started to rust in under a year, as well.

As I said, good truck, probably great for 99% of people, but I'm leaning towards a Ram or Tundra next.

Those are pretty weak complaints for a truck. Sounds to me overall it's been pretty good. I'll give you the slow/sluggish, but that's easily fixed. Otherwise, all the sidesteps on any truck are gonna suck wet. And God help you if someone armor-alls 'em. Don't know about vibrations. Turn signal cancellation? Seriously?
I've had mine in 24" of snow and clearance seemed ok. It would high center in any real offroading sitch., but that's to be expected with a long wheel base. Regardless, good luck with a new truck. Like the bike, btw.

Well, like I said, they're mostly small irritating personal issues. The truck never had any problem with snow, but trust me, its dragging its guts through it more than any other truck - there are all brands of truck where I work, and the Fords are the only one making 3 ruts. Its never failed me and would be perfect for most people, but it just isn't ideal for what I'm doing with it. Things like the flat floor in the back of a Ram quad cab would be really helpful to me, even though the rest of their interior hasn't changed since the earth cooled.

And come on, don't those turn signals bother you too?

Honestly, I think there might be something wrong with your turn signals. Mine cancel like any other vehicle I've ever had. I have to say, the stalk is positioned weirdly though. It just feels out of place. I was looking at a friends Dodge Ram. He's got this monster, I'm not sure what exactly it is, but the cab is way way way bigger than any other truck. Rear seat room is off the hook. Anyway, his front pumpkin hangs down a lot lower than anything on my truck. I totally understand about little things that bug you. Truth be told, my truck has this annoying wind noise coming from the windshield area that after a lot of work and several trips to the dealer, I've given up on. If I'm gonna complain, I hate the back doors not automatically unlocking. Further, I wish American vehicles would get on board with one touch switches all around and for closing (windows, etc.) like my wifes Benz does. Pretty minor I guess. You're right about the Dodge interior, it's so ugly only a caveman could love it. Pic. is a little unclear, is that a Honda or KTM? I still ride my old KX500 which gets it done.

He'll buy a Ram and complain about the lack of rear seat space or buy a Tundra and complain about a butt ugly truck, inside and out.

Satisfaction is tough sometimes.
