I went to Home Depot tonight to pick up a vanity top for our bathroom remodel. The thing was 7 ft in length with dual bowls so a couple associates help load me up.

One jumped into the bed to pull the box in and the other was going to lift it up from the dolly and place it in as to not rub the the bed liner since it was still on a wooden pallet.

Well when one guy was pulling it in, the dolly got under the tailgate and once the vanity top was set into the bed, the truck went down on the dolly. I thought at first that it was just on the edge of the top plastic sicne I had to lift it up to pull it out. I guess the other end was screweded and apparently halfway under the tailgate.

Either way, once I got back home, unloaded and closed the tailgate, I saw the orange and the horrific scratches on the tailgate. I does not appear to have distorted the metal but got the truck pretty good.
Thats why you ALWAYS load your own truck!

Thumbs up Awesome

I tried to buy a MDF, but it was sold as a panel not a board. I purchase a board instead. It might be tougher to carve the mounted area out, but it looks much sturdy.
Paying more than 100 dollar for the plasticky thing that some of them make is just too much.
Thanks for your pictures man.

Looks great, wish I could do this but I got the amp under my rear seat like others have. Dont think it would be worth it for me.

Good job, the carpet makes it look so much better.

I am actually trying to make a wooden box using 1/4" MDF. When I am done, I will post some pictures.

glad to see someone did it ! I've been telling people looking for that to just build your own. Glad it worked out. And it looks real good, even before carpet.

Out of curiosity. No one mentioned securing the box? Does the box slide out if you hit the brakes too hard? Have you done something to secure it?

There are 2 holes in the front face of the seat bracket on the driver's side. I drilled 2 in the same spot on the passenger's side. I used 1.5" drywall screws from the backside of the seat brackets, through the holes, into the MDF. It's been quite a while now since I did this and I've never had an issue.

I was thinking the same thing. You could rattle can just about any color to match your interior.
