Price check, 03 screw $17800?

Found an off lease 03 screw XLT, 46k. 5.4, burgundy, tan cloth int. moonroof, power seat, that's about it for extras. Clean carfax, clean body. Asking $19995, I offered $17500 they countered $17800. I was hoping for the 04 up style with moonroof, in white, but can't find any low mileage (less than 60k) for less than $20k. How does the $17800 price sound? Consumer Reports list the 03 as the best out of 01-07.

Sounds about $2000 too high to me, but may be worth it to you.

There is quite a price range.
KBB; trade=$15720, private party=$17770, retail= $21190
Edmunds; trade=$13953, private party=$15677, retail=$17175
NADA; trade=$17225, retail=$20250
A dealer is selling it, with these prices, what would you try to buy it for and which site do most dealers use? Thanks

showing your adds I only got a NADA trade value of 16650.00 so if you pay a grand more sounds like a good deal. If you have the vin# I can run it and get the true NADA value

Personally I'd wait until I found what I was actually looking for. Most important thing is what you think it's worth to you. If you feel $17, 800 is a fair price then you won't regret your decision, if you think it's too much you'll be kicking yourself in the butt everytime you think of making those payments.

I probably paid a little more for my SCREW than others did, maybe a little less than some, but bottom line is I think I got a great truck for my money.

Actually I like the 03 and 04 body style equally. Just looking to get the best deal. Are most dealers using the NADA guide? Should I take the average between the NADA trade and retail price for a starting price? Ever notice the buy it now for screws on ebay? They are outrageous and never sell, then they have to relist them.

$15,000 - $20,000 seems like a good average price for that model truck, so it sounds ok to me

Keep in mind that a lot more change in 04 than just the body style. The frame is beefier and 5.4L got upgrades like 3 valves per cylinder instead of 2, etc.

If it's a 4x4 the price is pretty decent, if you like the truck, go for it.

If it's a 2x4, it's about $2000 too high.

I was in the same boat, my price range was 03/04 but it was hard to find much in the 04's that I could afford. Basically I was looking at really nice loaded 03's or the more basic 04's. I waited a while and finally found my current 04 Lariat Screw 4X4 with everything on it that was actually cheaper than some of the overpriced 03's.

I had a 2000 XLT and I can tell you that the new body style is heads and shoulders above the older style in terms of ride quality and handling. I was just amazed at the difference. Payload and towing are also much better.

In the end you have to decide what you're willing to pay and what your priorities are in terms of what you're getting with that money. As for me I couldn't be happier that I waited it out and found exactly what I was looking for, well worth the time spent looking!

Sounds a little high but not much, I would try to get the new body style if I was looking for a truck.

Thanks for all the advice. I found an 04 Lariat screw loaded with every option Ford offered. Pretty sure I'll get that.

I paid 15,000 for my Screw 18mo ago its a 2 wheel drive and the dealer could not sell it. Every one wants a 4x4 up here 90% of the trucks we sell here are 4x4 and 1/2 of them never use the 4x4.
