Gas Mileage

make sure you guys are comparing apples to apples. some of these better mpgs are only 2wd. 1-2 mpg diff. also look at location, up north the winter blend is still in effect and that hurts 1-2 mpg... my 05 screw 5.4 4x4 w/ 3.73 gets avg 14/15 combined. 10-20% in 4x4, 50% hwy at 75 mph and the rest in mixed in town and rush hour traffic. Usually I slide rear out in turns in the wet for fun and take off quick to 20 mph to enjoy the torque
100% 4x4 I get 11-13mpg. 100% hwy I can get 16-18 depending on speed terrain, wind, etc. could nurse out 20 if I kept it at 65 but Id be a road hazard...
I think this is fair for a truck this big. certainly as good or better than other full size trucks.

Before I did my lift I was seeing pretty much 16 mpg stock. That was by my estimates 60/40 highway/stop and go driving. I haven't had the lift on long enough to determine the effect on my gas tank/wallet, but I knew by getting the lift there would be an effect so I'm ready for it.
As PawPaw said, drive'em fairly easy and they get pretty good mileage for an almost 3 ton vehicle. If you drive 80 then your gas mileage is going to suck.

I bought an 04 FX4 supercrew with 40K on it. Since then, I have put about 5K on it myself. I use it heavily as a sales vehicle that sees a mix of highway and city, but mostly highway. I live in NE Ohio so weather has been rough. My worst tank was about 14mpg. Best so far has been just over 16 1/2. I have to admit, my highway speed is usually pushing 80-simply because the thing rides so nice I don't reallize I am going that fast!
I had an 05 Silverado extended 4x4 (hey, it was a company truck-I couldn't choose the make back then!) that had a corsa exhaust on it and it used to get 20 mpg pretty consistantly. I am thinking about trying k&n intake, corsa exhaust and a programmer on my s-crew to see if I can squeeze a bit more out of it. I drive about 50k per year so anything I can do to save a bit is nice. Besides, if you never heard a Corsa exhaust on a truck, you need to check it out! AWESOME...nice sound when you're getting on it but pretty quiet when you're on the freeway. Never seen anything else like it.
Anybody had any luck picking up any mpg using these items?

Fuel non economy
Just returned from a trip to Florida from Ontario Canada. For the1600 mile one way trip I averaged 17 mpg (U.S. gallons) each way. Truck is 2006 F150 FX4 SC with 5.4L 3:55 grears and 20 inch rims. Got the same mileage with our 2001 SC lariat 4x4 with 5.4 v8 and 3:73 gears. All a bit disapointing for the new truck with all the hype about the improved 24 valve V8. But what the heck its a truck.

I have an '06 Lariat Scab w/ 20" wheels and 3.73. I drive 25 miles to work each way. 20 of those miles are surface streets and ~5 highway. I coast downhill a fairly good portion of the trip on the way to work, and of course, it is uphill on the way back. In the winter I averaged 13.5 mpg like clockwork. I am now just around 14.5. I see about a .3 - .4 mileage difference comparing downhill vs. uphill. In other words, it is 14.1 or 14.2 mpg uphill and 14.7 or.8 downhill, for an average of 14.5.
I just hit 8000 miles and for sure the truck has loosened up a bit and gets better mileage now than when brand new--not much, but noticeable. And the winter gas definitely caused a 1 mpg hit.
I drive with a fairly conserative foot.
