oil change

now i need to get an oil change and was wondering what oil you guys use to keep these great trucks running, i am almost at 99k mi, i would also say that i like offroading in it and it does get some abuse but nothing this ford can't handle

now i am not looking for people telling me what is good and what is not while arguing with each other on that fact, i am looking for what you guys use, espeacily if you have over 80k on the truck

also i need to get that recall for the cruise control thing taken care of, and at first i was going to do the oil myself but i might just have ford do it while it is in the shop

On my older vehicles I stick to the recommended weight & type of oil in the manual. If they're under 100,000 miles I'll use Castrol. If they're over 100,000 miles, I'll use whatever is cheapest at Sam's Club.

My new vehicles get free oil changes at the dealer, so they get treated to genuine Motorcraft (yeah, right)... I think the dealers in these parts use Valvoline.

There is really no reason to vary from what is specified in the owner's manual - Motorcraft 5w20. And yes, that is what I used on my 2002 5.4 SCREW, all the way to 89000+ miles when I traded it in on my present ride.. As for the recall, you can probably get it done while you wait. It only takes about 30 seconds to do.

I use 5-20 MC as recommended. My dealer charges only $28 for an oit change and I usually have a coupon for $19.95. No reason to do it myself or go anywhere else.

Do not wait on that recall. Unplug the offending switch until you get it done. It is a serious problem

When its time for my 1st oil change, in at 1281.6 mi, I'll be switching to Mobil 1-5W-20. I've used it on every vehicle I ever owned, on my previous vehicle, 2005 Cadillac CTS, it was factory fill. Should quiet down the 5.4 & get slightly better mileage, according to what I have read on these forums from users of it.

The motorcraft 5W20 is a semi-synthetic oil at about $2/qt. The Motorcraft FL-820S filter has high flow rates and filtering capacity. No reason not to use both unless you want extended oil changes with a full synthetic. Otherwise, there aren't much cheaper oil/filters availible and their performances are questionable.

I generally try to stay out of the oil wars, but once in awhile I will offer an opinion...

Given the very reasonable cost of the MC 5w/20 and MC 820s filter, and the fact that they are both highly regarded by most here, I really don't see the point in using anything else

If you actually get better mileage with M1 over MC, you won't be able to measure the difference with an eyedropper and a micrometer. It dern sure won't pay for the difference in cost.

I use Napa (Valvoline) 5w30 and Napa filters. 74,000 miles and no problems so far.

Motorcraft oil and filter here. The switch that needs to be unplugged is located on the front of the master cylinder. Just unplug the connector and your truck is no longer a fire hazard.
