Cubby Hole Under Front Pull Out Cup Holder

In my 2005 SCrew there is a cubby hole in the dash under the pull out cup holder. Does anyone know what this is? It seems useless for anything. I plan to install some equipment one thing is a Ham radio. Can this be removed to install such things? Is this what it's for? seem useless for anything else.

That hole seems to be pretty much useless to put anything into. It's a good place to install a brake controller, or like i did and inst. my radar detector in there.

I use mine for nothing. I haven't found anything that I could put there. Plus if I put something there I would forget about it since it is out of sight.

I don't know what the 2004+ cubby looks like, but the 97-03 one sounds about the same size and I love it for putting my wallet there. I hate sitting on my wallet while driving. Ford removed the cubby for MY2000 and repeat buyers complained so Ford brought it back.
