Two-Tone paint :help:

Just bought an '07 Screw, and my truck's got two tone black and silver on the bottom and I hate it!! I thought I would get over it, but I still don't like it after 3 months. Just so I don't get ripped off too much, about how much do you guys think it should cost to paint over that ugly silver strip on the bottom and make my truck one color?? I'd like to have an idea before I contact my Ford dealer, or anywhere else. thanks.

jstevens72- Depending on what your Bodyshop Labor rate is in Oklahoma, I would bet you'd be charged anywhere from $725.00-$850.00. And that would be just for repainting the Silver to Black, not painting the whole panel on each panel to be painted.. One good thing, Black is one of the least expensive colors. Be glad you arent painting a Red or some of the Blues. For what it's worth, if you're going to paint out the Silver, why not pick a different color other than Black? Maybe a Gold or something, who knows. That way you would be personalizing your truck, rather than just paying extra to make it look like every other all-Black '07 Supercrew. Just my opinion though....Also, if you have the Bodyshop for the Dealer where you bought your truck do the work, they MIGHT cut you a break. If you go that route, be sure to ask the New Car Sales Manager (not just your Salesman as he doesnt have any clout) to see if he can get the Bodyshop to charge you the Internal Labor rate, the rate that the Sales Dept. would pay for the same work. Anyway, Good Luck!

With you on that one. I'll never get a two tone truck again. Buddy has a good idea with the manager at Ford, but still shop it around. I'll bet you get quotes between $750-$1200.

Just trying to help a fellow Ford owner, but what about some stainless panels over the silver for a dressier look (see mine - over solid black). No offense if it's not your bag, but $120 goes a long way. I saw stainless over silver a few weeks ago when a guy had the same idea, and frankly, it didn't look that bad as the stainless covers most of the silver anyway. If you don't have a Lariat, it may be cheaper as you won't have the wheellips in silver. Then again, if your bumpers are silver, well... then you need to repaint.

J,

My truck has the same paint scheme, but I love it. Maybe some chrome steps w/ the black inserts would work for you.(?) Stainless grill? Stainless push bar? Maybe, and this is pushing it, a silver stripe down the middle of the truck? Let us know the outcome, whatever it is.

i've got the grey with silver bottom and i too didn't like the way it looked. then i got a stripe done down the side and now i love it! i'm always getting compliments as well. it just brings the silver up into the other color and makes them go together wayyyyyyy better. just make sure the stripes are indeed the same color. i saw one guy who had a two tone truck and he put a stripe on that was a 3rd color. it was the ugliest thing i've ever seen. some guys put stuff on just to put stuff on and don't even think about what it will look like in the long run. i take months to consider all the pros and cons of every single mod i do. i also took off the god awful 4X4 sticker so there's a better flow down the side of the bed. then i added some slight chrome touches to incorporate the chrome on the bumpers and now i think my truck is one of the best looking ones on the road. another option would be to buy some paintable lariat flares and paint them silver. i actually almost did that (after thinking about it for about a year) but then decided it wouldn't go with the chrome bumpers that well. on your truck i think some black ghost flares (weird i know but i've seen it and it looks cool) would look cool painted into the silver as well. the point is there are sooooo many options you can try. be different!!! all i need now are some nice chrome rims and i'm set.

You're truck looks very sharp... I like the whole setup... simple yet classy. I agree about the whole 4x4 sticker. To me I've always thought it looks really old, like they just carried it over from previous gen and didn't consider revamping it for the new trucks. It looks dated and boring to me. I really wish Ford had fun with it and made it add to the truck rather than just have it there to have it there. I'm pretty sure that they revamped it for the 08 Super Dutys.
