2006, for sure. I wanted a longer bed in my 05, but it wasn't an option at the time, then it came out in 06 and I was none too happy.

Definitely a different frame and wheelbase length.

Yes a diference in frame size as the shorter box has a 139" wheelbase and the 6.5' box has a 150" wheelbase.

When I was working out a price for my 06, they asked me if I wanted a 5.5 or 6.5 bed......they said it was an option for the 06's and there was no price difference........glad I went with the 6.5

As others have said the 6.5' bed option came out in 2006. On my 2007 it is an option costing $1200, or $100 and inch as I like to say. They should have done this back in 2001.

Well, you certainly were sold a bill of goods. It is a $230 upcharge for the 6-1/2 foot bed over the 5-1/2 footer - MSRP, not invoice. And, to make matters worse, unless you were paying attention when you ordered it and ordered the larger fuel tank option for $95, you got a smaller fuel tank than the 5-1/2 foot bed has standard.
