Lookin for my first pickup...

Hey guys, just registered here as I am currently in the market for (idealy) a 98-03 f150 supercrew flareside 4x4 with the 4.6 V8.

I was wondering what to expect to pay for say a 2000 F150 like the one I just described if its in great condition and has under 100K miles?

How long to these trucks usually last? (Mileage wise).

Is there anything I should look out for while trying to picking out the right one other than than obvious (brakes, battery, tires, interior, exterior...)?

How does the modular 4.6 do on gas in the f150 with an auto?

Thanks in advance for any input, I can't wait to get 'er!

-Kurt

why not get a 5.4 that 4.6 is not gonna act like the 4.6 in your mustang might as well go for the 5.4 not that much in gas milage diffrence if any.

I understand the 4.6 won't act the 4.6 I have in my mustang but this truck will be used as my bad weather/winter ride, if I feel the need to go fast, I can always hop in the stang. The 5.4 is definatly a possibility, I just atleast want the 4.6 (for power and re-sale reasons) and if I find one with a 5.4 for the right price I'll jump on it.

yeah my 5.4L makes more standard power and gets better mpg than some 4.6Ls out there, But all in all great motors

$9,000 - $16,000 i'd say, I bought mine $14,995 and probably am gonna sell it for $10,000 and hopefully pay less than $15,000 on a '02 - '03 screw.

They didnt make supercrews pre 2001, and they did not make a flareside supercrew ever either.

4.6 you should see between 13-14 city and 17-19 highway.

Id expect it to last 175,000 miles without too many repairs. But expect maintance, and a few repairs after 125,000

Also, you can't get the v6 in the supercrew... so shop away and you should be gtg with any supercrew with the right price since they will have the same beds and one of the two v8s either way.

Do you want the 4 full sized doors or the 2 rear suicide doors? The former is the supercrew, only availible with the 4.6 or 5.4L, and no flareside bed. The later can be had with the 4.2L V6 and flareside bed. Price delta on the used market $2k, so make sure you know the terminology. Ford calls the 4 full sized door model the Supercrew and the suicide door model the Supercab.

Yea, actually Im looking for a either a supercrew or supercab, but more likely a supercab, I made a typo in the first thread, thank you for clairifying.

Weather or not its flareside isnt that big of deal to me, I'd much rather make sure it has (either) V8 and the FX4 package. I would prefer it to be flareside (and therefore would have to be a supercab) but would be more than happy with a styleside in either cab, so long as the price is right.

I know the FX4 package adds rancho shocks, 17" rims, and 3.55 gears, is there anything else the FX4 adds that im missing?

Thanks a lot for all the input guys!

Skid pads, and i think a bigger trans cooler. Also the factory shocks shouldnt be any good after about 70,000 miles. So dont necissarily look for the ranchos on the FX4. Also people have said that the factory ranchos arent near as good as aftermarket ranchos

Tell what your price range was. I trying to sell my 03 F150 supercab flareside FX4. It was the 5.4L with 57,000 miles. The FX4 package comes with 3.73s. Thats what mine are anyway. You can look in my gallery for pics.
