Newly installed bar grille causing noise in cab
I just installed a new bar stainless steel(polished) bar grille in both the upper and bumper of my 2001, F150(supercrew), and was so pleased with the great looks it gave the truck. As soon as I drove the truck for the first time, after installing grilles, I heard this loud "TONE", or "WINE", in the cab, as soon as I hit about 28 MPH and it continues until about 45 MPH. I spoke with the manufacturer, and they told me to look for any (tiny) holes, that may have been overlooked, around the welded areas, and if any were found, to cover or plug them. At close inspection, I did find a couple VERY SMALL holes, around the 4 attachment arms, which is how the grille is installed, and the sound is still there, even after covering the holes. HELP,....Has anyone had a similar experience, and/or suggestions as to how to correct. Love the grilles, but hate the noise it created. Thanks
Id call them back, tell them you found several holes, you plugged them, it still makes the noises. Ask them if they can send you a different one.
Also on a side note, if you dont need your stock honeycomb grill, i would Love to take it off your hands.

Your advise is right on target, in my book, and I have done just that! I only finished the install last Thursday, and communicated the problem to them on Friday, when I drove the truck and heard the noise. Bought on Ebay, and seller gave me the adivse that I posted in thread, after talking with their tech. I have emailed my failed effort to them, but, like any business,...I don't expect to hear back until tomorrow,(Monday).I REALLY did my homework prior to choosing both a grille style and to whom I wanted to do business with as a seller, so at this point, I will give them the courtesy of OFFERING a replacement,...but you can bet that if they don't offer soon, I will have no problem telling them how I want it handled. It's a real shame though, not that anyone could have done anything about it,...but just the effort to remove the "grille shell", AGAIN, is not something I look forward to, but will do whatever is needed, to make it right,...especially spending that kind of $, but what a PAIN. Patrick, as for the OEM grille,...I had the 2-BAR style,...so can't help 'ya with a honeycomb. As for the bar grille replacement,...I just cannot figure out HOW IN THE WORLD it is making that noise, and whether another one is goint to do it too,...but am committed now, since I cut off the tabs that the stock grille snapped on to, on the back of the grille shell. I'm going to try one more thing on my own, and it involves putting regular window screen, directely behind the grille, since still have access to it, and see what happens. I will post my progress, and again,,,thanks for your input. Bob
