Headlight Adjustment on a 2001 Supercrew

How do I adjust the headlights on a 2001 Supercrew? I checked the owner's manual and all it said was to take it to a qualified technician, not very helpfull.

To get a 100% correct headlight allignment a tech knows what to do, after I put my Lightning headlights on my left headlight beam was way off, was like lower & more left, I was able to just adjust it up myself, but the left beam still rides a little lower that the passenger one does...

you have to remove the headlight assembly.(pull tabs up and tilt them out to do each adjustment) i just turned mine in/out with a small socket a little at a time until i got mine were i liked it. i just parked outside about 20' from my garage door at night and marked the position of the 2 headlights before i started. i know it's a bit of a pain but is do able at home. there are 2 or 3 adjustment tabs on each light( i can't exactly rememeber it's been 6 months). good luck

There is a tool you can buy but I dont recommend it. I bought it at Autozone or somewhere but there is not enough clearance behind the light to use it. I finally wound up using sockets to adjust my light after replacing the bulb which is major slow. In the end I just grasped the headlight and moved the whole thing to where I wanted it. The adjustment screws thread through some rubber grommets so this can be done just go slow.

Does anyone have any pics or diagrams on where these adjustment screws/tabs are? I can see some screws threading through the grommets on the back of the HL, but I can't see where to get a socket onto it at. Where are these tabs that I remove the headlights at?

Heres a pic of your headlamp tabs, when its dark flick your lights on and pull them up & adjust until they are both level

my headlights, there are these long threaded posts coming out the back, and there are plastic star looking nuts on them, depending on which way you thread them, moves the light. the ones to the outside of the fixture, change up and down, and the one closer to the grill goes L to R

Just do at most 1 turn at a time on one post at a time, its alot of in and out with the light fixture, but remember a little adjustment goes a long way when the light pattern is spread out 40' ahead of you.

Btw my last name is "Estes" thought it was funny to see that in your screen name. Is that your last name too?

Thank you so much everyone, for all the info, and especially the pics. It'll probably be tomorrow night before I can attempt to adjust them.

I have the headlight adjustment tool specifically for this... used it on my 01'. Can't remember the brand but, it's basically a long handled ratchet... it works great though.

Now that I have an 05, I really have no need for the tool though.

same here I used it on my 98 with no problems. You dont have to removed the headlights or anything - you adjust them in place. I would get the tool.
