4.6 V8 or 5.4?????

Hello,

I am thinking of getting a 2006 Ford F150 supercrew 4x4. I am debating between the 4.6 V8 and 5.4, but am concerned about gas mileage. The Ford dealership brochure claims they are the same - 14 mpg city and 18 highway. Would appreciate any thoughts or opinions on this.

I think most member will tell you the gas milage is almost identical, but there is a big power difference. I would go with the 5.4 without a doubt.

As an owner of both now, a 2003 4.6, with 40k and a 2006 5.4, I would say mileage is pretty much identical. Also made the choice to go to the 5.4 since the truck is ~500#s heavier then the 2003. Getting 14.5 mpg in town driving with a light foot on the throttle.

I would hate to see how sluggish my truck would react with a 4.6. I have the 5.4 and the damn truck is so heavy it would hardly get up and go. I put an intake, exhaust, and tuner. It's a real truck now.

Probably I would say the same thing, but for daily driving, and the ocasional project, the 4.6 does the job no problems.
Concrete, lumber, car, F250, my truck handled those just fine...
