Need your honest opions:

If you own a 01-03 SC 4x4 w/ 5.4L please tell me about your likes and dislikes about your truck. I am looking to possibly trade my XJ for this truck and I am at a complete standstill on yay or nay.

Anyways my XJ (Cherokee) is a 99 Sport 4x4 w/ 75k miles stock worth about $6k-$7k, but I have $3k+ in mods, but won't count that. This truck is a 2001 SC 4X4 5.4L with 80k miles and lifted and has about $4k in it.

So do you think it s worth my Jeep and $7k for the truck? I am mainly worried cause XJs are very very reliable and these trucks (no offense) seem to be as reliable with trannies going out at 30k miles and engines using oil and shooting plugs. I am not sure.

The truck:

You can't go wrong with an 01-03 Screw, I just traded in my 03 scerew on a 06 screw, so I am going on my second supercrew but thrid F-150.
My 03 had no problems with 50,000 miles on it, just basic items you'd expect needed work, brakes tires etc.
You shoould be okay with this purchase, I'd just grill the owner about maintence he has done over the years, has he kept up with oil changes, how are the brakes, transmission oil and grear oil etc.

Good luck

If you go look in the Engines forum you will see a topic that is 59 (Yes, FIFTY NINE) pages long. The topic is "Who's in the 1000,000 club" or something like that. I just spent a crapload of time readin through it and I must say I was actually pleasantly surprised to see that I would say about 9 out of 10 of the members over 100k had NEVER had any major problems, most report literally only changing plugs, wires, belts, and possible seals.

Many members were over 150k, many still over 225k, and one with 550k on his truck!

So, to answer your question...if the previous owner took care of the truck you are looking at a potentially very reliable vehicle.

Looking at the interior shots, it appears to have been taken care of. My one nightmare with my '01 KR 4x4 Screw was the sunroof. It had the original design which enough engineering problems that Ford redesigned it and now Ford doesn't even offer repair parts for the original design - you have to replace the entire sunroof assemby. You can probably guess how I found this out. Luckily my dealer is pretty good and they got half the cost covered by Ford even though the truck was out of warrenty. Still cost me $500 of the $1,000-plus and 3 days without the truck. Unfortunately the sunroof photo is not detailed enough to see which version is in the truck you are looking at. The biggest visual clue I could give you was that on my original assembly when the sun shade was pushed back into the headliner you could see wire about the size of a metal coat hanger that connected parts on each side. The new assembly does not have those. Might be worth running it by a dealer in the area and having them check it.

The guy seems to have taken great care of it. He runs synthetic oil and told me the only thing needing to be done are front brake pads.

As for mods it has a 6" Fabtech lift, 315(35s) MT/Rs, MT wheels, programmer, super chip, dual CAI, flomaster duals and 4.56s not installed.

Thanks, I'll look for this when I see the truck.

All in all it sounds like a good truck if you choose to buy, since I haved owned three I am little bias, I say go for it,if its in your budget look into trading the Jeep in on an 06 model they have some good rebates and 1.9% on the loans, I know I just bought mine 2 weeks ago today, Listen to me I sound like a girlfriend, "we've been together for two weeks"

My 01 has 92K miles now and I have not had any engine, oil, tranny or sunroof problems. I have replaced shocks and battery, front rotors, bearings and brakepads. I have not heard of any trannie problems. Dodge has that problem.

My Jeep is too "modified" to trade-in. Yeah I can afford about $25k, but If I got a new truck it would be the new redesigned GM trucks, probably a Chevy.

It's my third F150, 1990, 1998, and now 2002. 2002 Supercrew is the best F150 I've ever owned. Drives smooth and feels tight, I'm pretty fussy with vehicles. 2001-2003 F150's has high remarks in customer reports and edmunds as one of the top used pickup on market. The only drawbacks in my 2002 supercrew is the short bed with 5.5 ft long, and poor gas mileage especially with over $3 per gallon nowdays. However, I drive a Honda as commute vehicle, so it's not too bad. Everything else is awesome with the Supercrew, we usually use it on long trips as its much more comfortable hauling the family.

Bump, still may trade. The dude lowered his price to where his truck would cost me $12k and it has 84k miles.

12k isnt too bad, for a 4x4 5.4
You may watch out for ball joints, that can run you 250 for a good set of four, and if he hasnt done them its probably time, same with plugs.
