offroad with supercrew
for all yall with the ford supercrews, how capable are they offroad when they are stock. i have a 2001 supercrew 4x4 lariat with skid plates etc. is this truck capable to do mild trails and go over ruts in the trail and do some hard muddin? how extreme can this truck go offroadin stock?
Mine saw a lot of desert use when it was stock. Tires will probably be your limiting factor, especially in mud. Aside from blowing the seals out of a stock shock, and tearing the rubber off of a suspension stop (totally my fault - I was driving WAY faster than I should have been) it did great.
I've had 2 older 2-dr Explorers (90 & 95) and they could handle mild trails and bumps no prob....the F150 would be much more capable with tjhe added clearance and larger tires.
Can't say the "muddin" was something I hit to hard, but you should have no problems having fun, and going places only a 4x4 would attempt. Go with a buddy in another vehicle, take it slow, and have a blast! Depending on the conditions, you might want to have a tow rope in the gear bag.

thanks, i was just wondering becuase i did some pretty hard wheelin and hit a rock with my front skid plate. my bumper also got pushed in a little bit and my airbags deployed. totally did not see the airbag problem coming. it handled everything fine i was just wondering becuase i want to make sure i could offroad it pretty good and not worry bout anything breaking. the airbag thing sux tho gonna cost me alot to fix
F-150 SuperCrew handles the terrain OK here in Virginia - BUT - on forest roads it sure is tough to find a space to turn this monster around. Meeting another vehicle is a trick also - someone has to run in the ditch. Hopefully not me

Have taken my F-150 2001 Lariat Screw everywhere in the high country. Been on roads where most everyone else was chained up and the ruts were muddly and fairly deep just outside of Craig, CO during hunting season. I have chains for all four wheels but have never had to use them yet.
But I never have had the problem you describe because I ease over problems and never gun it. Where I go 4-wheel low and slow is the rule or you will slide off of the road.
You are right, the air bags are really gonna cost you some bucks. Hope you get everything fixed alright. Mert

yes the airbags are costly, my cousin is a mechanic and is gettin a set from a guy from a 2002 for $650. hopefully it all works out. i wasnt goin fast when i hit, i was actually sliding down a slight ditch and the bottom of my bumper (valance) and my skidplate on the front hit the rock. never woulda thought that would set airbags off. the steering seems to be a little loose too so i guess i'll get that checked out too. overall these trucks are pretty badass offroad even when they are stock
