Why did you buy your supercrew?
Why did you buy your supercrew?
I'm looking to buy somethere here shortly and it's between the 1500 Hemi QC and the F150 5.4 Supercrew. For those of you who considered the Dodge, what was your reasoning behind getting the Ford? Not trying to start a flame war or anything, but I'm curious what people's reasons were. Also, things like "Dodge sucks", or "Cuz Ford rules" aren't helpful to me...
Thanks
Thanks
Ford was more reliable, more room in the cab and has MUCH better mpg. I get 15-16 all the time in my crew cab 4x4 wit the 5.4. PLUS many people will tell you the ford engine is better at towing with more low end torque. The Hemi will get up and move on the hwy but the ford will beat it out of the hole....
Dodge looks great and if you get a diesel mega cab - id do it, but not for the 1500.....

The Ford is a much better truck all around.
Go to www.TheTruthAboutTrucks.com and watch those videos. Interesting info.
Obviously a bias, as Ford made it, but still some good facts to be known.
I personally think the 2004+ Screw F150 is the best looking and most reliable truck on the road (in its class). If I wanted something huge, I would track down a 7.3 PSD 250....

Mine was really because I'm just a Ford man. Have been for a while.
But, I haven't ever really liked Dodge for their reliability issues and craftsmanship. I have had several friends that have owned Dodges and I got to see first hand the reliability issues. And by craftmanship, I mean things like the paint prematurely fading and things like that.
But don't get me wrong, I would by the new Challenger in a heartbeat if they keep it pretty close to the concept!!

A few reasons for me.
First, a history with Dodge trucks. Not the Ram, but the Dakota. Had two of them, one used and one new and both became cash cows for my local Dodge mechanics. They could never really determine what was wrong with either of them. I honestly think my last one was possessed. Anyone else driving it wouldn't get a hint of any issues. When I got behind the wheel the thing would backfire, hesitate and run like crap.
Second, research. I'd done a lot of online research, both through the resource listed above (truth about trucks) and other resources, such as Consumer Reports. The Fords were consistently rated higher.
Third, my local Ford dealer was the first to return my call. This might seem trivial, but the Dodge salesman hasn't called me back yet. Kind of gives you an indication as to their appreciation for your business.
Fourth, I'd wanted an F-150 for as long as I can remember.

I've been a ford guy as long as I've owned vehicles, and I was pretty much dead set on getting the F150. The thing that is making me look at the dodge is the engine. Heavy truck + lowest power numbers don't make me so happy with the Ford...

The Ford has more torque though, and where my Chevy struggled to keep 75mph with a four-wheeler in the bed and two on the trailer, the Ford just laughs at it. Even when I pulled the larger wheels/tires off the Chevy it couldn't hold 75mph with a full load without the transmission "hunting" for gears.
The reason the Ford is heavier is b/c it is a much more safe and reliable truck. It is also very quiet. Whereas I strained to have a conversation on my cellphone in the Chevy it's no problem in the Ford.
I have no experience with Dodge other than QC Diesels on the farm and the one my uncle uses to pull his Contender. I guess it really depends on the purpose of your truck. I'm not loyal to any one manufacturer to so I just get the truck that fits my needs best for what I'm going to be doing with it.
I have owned several Fords, and they have all gone 150K miles plus with no problems. I traded my 95 Ranger Xcab 4x4 for my Screw. I would have kept the Ranger but we needed something that would hold 2 car seats. My sister/brother-in-law have a Ram Hemi Quad Cab. They both agree that my F150 is more comfortable. He used to give me crap about his truck being faster (which it is when we are empty), but then loaded up with gear headed to the desert (similar loads in both trucks) his truck had to downshift much more often because the Hemi just does not have the low end torque of the 5.4. He could not keep up with me on hills. Ford designed this truck for people who are going to use them like trucks - for hauling and towing.
I was not dead set on a Ford when I shopped for my truck. I really wanted something that would hold up for years and give me good value. After reading a lot, looking at reliability ratings, and just looking around to see how various brands of trucks looked at 5 or 10 years old, I decided the F-150 was the way to go. It seems that if you take good care of these trucks, they last a very long time.

I am a little bias because I have always been a ford man, but I did know a mechanic that was crazy about dodges and he said that he wouldn't buy anything new that dodges make. The reason for that is that you will have to start replacing parts in a couple years because of all of the crap and plastic they put into it, that basically goes for all chrysler vehicles. I also think that the Ford looks better as well. It doesn't have the quickness as the dodge but you can pull a ton. I also needed the room for 4 full size adults is why I got the super crew and I also have a trailer if i need to haul anything big. Good luck on finidng a new truck.
After looking at chevy, dodge, and ford and test driving them all the ford just seemed to be the perfect truck for me and you should do the same. It's Very roomy and comfortable but it's still a truck when you need it. And if your worried about power, just spend a little money in the aftermarket and you can keep up with the hemi's in a race. For about $1,200 you can get a programmer, air intake and a catback exhaust that will make a huge improvement.
