DOWN sliding power rear window???

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anybody ever seen/heard of such a thing for our beloved trucks? I have an 02 S-Crew and am currently researching installing a "side-slide" power rear window. A friend of mine mentioned this and made me wonder if anything like that was available.

Rockpick, 01RedScrew, do you have any info regarding this?? I seem to recall that the Sport-Trac had a window like that. It was really neat, you could contril how far down you wanted it to go. I think Toyotas have something similar. But I've never seen anything like that for our trucks.

If anyone does have info, websites would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Daryl

Yea lol, i was just talking about this in another thread the other day. someone mentioned a power slider, and what not. Well i mentioned it would be really badass to find a kit, that lowered the rear window, even if it only went down as far as the current rear doors do.

I havent searched, havent found.

And yes i know on the 03+ Toyota Tundra "double cab" (4dr) it was an option
EDIT [actually 04+ T Tundra]

To my understanding, you would have to have a smaller width back window, and you would have to have body work done to ad in window tracks and what not. So more then likely there arent easy DIY kits around for that reason.

You could always convert your back glass to those of the old broncos, that flipped up

I hope this helps you,
-Patrick

Oh and lettme know if you do find an easy DIY kit, i would be all over it.

Back in the early days of power sliders C.R. Lawrence used to make a Power Lite window. It was a power up/down slider. They haven't made it in at least 15 years that I know of. It was I guess a crappy design, so they quit making it.

Regards!

Don't know if anyone out there had run ins like this. Our 04 f150 lariat passenger window apparently slid down, the motor runs but the window wont come up. Cant get a repair manual in for another week which we cant wait. The dealer here wont do anything but want us to shell out 300 to 400 which we dont have. Can anyone help with pics and instructions? Warranty doesnt cover this. Any help would be appreciated;THANKS Mrs. muckhog

Can't be done on an 02 without major modifications. Look at your rear window from the outside. It sticks out towards the bed. It is not on the same plane as the rear of the cab.

you would have to pop the door panel off and take a look. Sounds like your window fell of the track...I'd stop running that motor at the risk of scratching that window up with the mechanism. Have Mr. Muckhog take that door panel off and take a peek inside the door.

Worst case scenario is that you have to get the dealer to fix it and you pay 15 min less in labor costs (at $90 an hour that could add up).

My '05 Sport Trac has the slide down rear window. I thought it was pretty neat at first, but it didn't take long to hate it. Having the whole rear window slide down is just way too much air flow and you get blinded by the sun if it's behind you. The "vent" option only lowers it about 20%, which offers great air flow, but the tinted window coupled with bright sun light coming through the opening obstructs your rear view. The standard F-150 side-to-side power slider is a heck of a lot better in my humble opinion.
