2001 Screw Power Sunroof

Just checking to see what anyone else knows about this. My '01 King Ranch Srew's power sunroof tore itself up big time a couple of weeks ago. All the parts that work with the glass and sliding sun shade came apart and bent up when the sunroof tried to open. Both the service tech and mechanic said Ford had design problems with the year model's sunroof. It apparently was confirmed when they tried to order replacement parts and none are offered. You have to buy the whole sunroof assembly with the redesign. Good news is that my dealer does a pretty good job in my opinion and, even though I bought the truck used and the warrenty period is over, they got with Ford and it is being partially covered as a warrenty item. Gonna end up costing me several hundred less to get a whole new assembly that what I was prepared to pay to fix the old one. Has anyone else had problems with their Sunroof on an 2001?

Yep. The early sunroof was a big discussion item on this forum in years past. A lot of people have been bitten by the 2001 sunroof. I refuse to ever try to open mine, but I'd like to shoot all the people who have gotten into my truck and pushed the dang button before I could stop them. I don't know why people think they need to start pushing buttons like that the first time they get into someone else's vehicle. So far no trouble - knock on wood.

Finally got the sunroof resolved. The replacement assembly was an entire new sunroof assembly and new headliner that is molded slightly differently than the original in order to allow clearance for the new sunroof. Having looked at the way the old one was designed versus the new design, it is obvious the re-design is a much better product. It works like a charm and is much quieter and smoother than the old one. It was a bit unsettling to go in the back at the dealer and see the truck with everything above dashboard height torn out and laying on the concrete beside the truck. Ford did allow for a partial warrenty coverage even though the truck was well out of the warrenty period.

glad to see Ford took some responsibility. I know you are still out probably a chunk of change but better than paying for it all.

2002 S-crew FX4 here, and no problems to report, knock on wood also! I love the sunroof on my truck and have it open most of the time...

Glad to hear that Ford stepped up and helped you out. I am glad that everything turned out good too.
