Supercrew or Honda Ridgeline?

Yes, I am serious . I've been test driving trucks and had basically settled on the F150 SuperCrew since there's basically nothing that holds up to it for what I'm planning to use it for.... but then the Honda Ridgeline caught my eye.

I had a 99 F150 that was a fantastic truck (used it for work for 2 yrs, but changed professions). It seems that quality is either a hit or miss with the F150... many are happy and have no issues, some have to change out parts before 100k miles and don't care, and some get a lemon. I have to admit that I'm at least somewhat concerned about quality, even though I've personally had bad experiences with Toyota too! The only quam I'm hearing from Ridgeline owners is faulty windshield seals.

I need a truck for:
1)daily driving
2)Haul family (2 small kids)
3)minor home improvement projects (needs to hold 4x8s)
4)Occasional light boat towing (~2500 lbs)
5)Trips to tahoe (snow)

I know this is a ford forum, but is there any reason why I shouldn't consider the Honda (besides it being ugly)? I was planning on the 2wd F150 XLT, so I don't plan to off-road.

So why is it the Ridge or F150 with no other shortlisted choices?

And if you think the Ridge is ugly, why is it on your list?

All 5 full size pickup makers offer crewcabs. There is alslo many small crew cabs available.

Not to mention the new SportTrac will be here soon.

If I were you I would hold off a little. You don't seem to be too sure about what you want/need right now. Check out the other offerings before making a decision.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

I bought the f150 for 2 reasons

#1- safety, with all the jerks on the road I want my wife and kids in the safest vehicle I can afford.

#2- I gotta admit, the looks are important. I wanted something that looks like a truck. The ridgeline looks like what it is, an SUV.

The safety was the main thing for me

You have to understand that the Ridgeline is not a true 1/2 ton truck. I think you're comparing apples and oranges. Although, you are the one that has to be seen driving that thing by all your friends.

I like the Honda ridge line, I test drove one and it is a great car, Quick, nice ridding and has neat utility features, BUT for towing or truck stuff, The Honda is not fully in the truck world, IF I were considering a car in camparison to a Tarus, Ford 500, or Impella, ect, I would buy the Honda, But Here in Calgary, a base model start's at 37 grand...a F-150 is cheaper..

I can't say anything one way or another about the Ridgeline. I will say this: In this day and age, with some of the mental giants driving around out there. I feel much better carrying the family around in my Supercrew. It is built like a tank.

This is one of the main reasons I bought this truck. I've owned it nearly a year and a half with no problems whatsoever. Take a hard look at the two vehicles and decide which one you would feel best about carrying your family around in.

BTW- If you're going to be driving in the snow, you might want to get the 4x4.

Naturally, being that this is a F-Series based website, your answers are going to be, somewhat, biased.

Most of us are driving what we consider to be the better of the two worlds. While Honda's quality is a tough arguement to debate, Ford's commitment to trucks has remained solid for years and years. Overall, any model will have a problem here and there but, if you'll tool through our message boards, you won't find too many problems that are an obvious repeated problems.

To most here, you'll hear that they think the Ridgeline is fairly ugly -- I'm not an exception to this because I think, cosmetically, it's just about as odd and nonconforming looking as they can come -- but, beyond the cosmetics lie several items that I would consider if I were you.

1. Track record. Ford Trucks are tried and true. They're just about as American as apple pie and have been around since our fathers and their fathers were tooling around in vehicles.

2. Reliability. As I mentioned, every vehicle will have a problem somewhere along the line but, overall, these things are built quite solid.

3. Power. As was mentioned, if towing and hauling are important factors to you, this should be a BIG plus for the Ford product. I've driven both. My personal preference between the two wasn't even a fair comparison because of overall 'feel' of the vehicle. For that reason alone (despite the cosmetics of the Ridgeline), I'd choose the F-150.

4. Safety. I suppose both are near even on this although, I haven't researched the NHTSA site or the insurance folks'. My hunch, however, is that the F-150 would fare better in the long run -- this is based solely on my opinion and observations of both vehicles -- of which I've driven.

Overall though, you need to do what is best for you and your family. Both are worthy of selection if they're on your shortlist... Choose wisely! It's a boatload of $!

Yeah, got ya' on that safety point.

I almost had a head-on with some moron during the test drive of the supercrew, and to be honest I felt totally safe in the Ford. Some guy in a mustang was fishtailing and drifted into my lane. I surely would not have felt safe in my accord or Rav4 if that happened and probably should keep a spare pair of undies just-in-case!

My personal opinion

I think the ridge is ugly. the ford is much nicer styling.
It sounds like the ridge line will prolly do what u want it to. And the supercrew will do what u want it to and be capable of much much more.

i work at a dealership which offer honda (ridgeline), nissan (titan- fullsize, frontier- the baby), dodge (ram-fullsize, dakota-largeer baby truck), and isuzu with the i3500, and still went and bought the f150 if that helps any. the ridgeline offers a softer ride, and is a capable city cruiser/grocery getter, a little smaller than the ford is as far as seating capacity, but if you family fits comfortably thats not a problem, just plan for the kids gettin bigger if you are gonna buy not lease. better fuel economy than our trucks. i like the ridgeline, just felt the f150 better fit my needs and wants (wanted a real truck i could beat on, and take off roadin). getting a car is a major decision, and as much as anyone here can advise you, you need to look at what is gonn fit your lifestyle the best

Needless to say, go for F150 Supercrew. It's proven based on it's track record, it's been best selling pickup for 20+ years give or take few years. Ridgeway is the first year model, so more reason to stay away from it. Sure, Honda has excellent reliability record, but it's for their cars. Trucks are our American's lifeblood and are our greatest strength. We are losing battles with imported vehicles, and we need to stabilize this by buying our domestic pickups which happens to be better than import pickups in terms of all around, can do much more than just transporting the family from point A to point B. Yes, I buy import cars, but I buy domestic trucks.

Don't compare a Ridgeline to a 2WD F-150 as Ridgelines are all AWD. And I'd get 4wd in an F-150 for resale, that boat launch, and Tahoe. Considering one can get $10k off F-150's, that puts the sale prices right in line with the Ridgeline. Drive them both if you have not already One will stand out, I promise.. Ridgeline has stability control which F-150's do not. It's a great truck for families and very light duty towing/hauling. Even though payload is up there @ 1500 pounds like 1/2 ton pickups, 1/2 ton pickups will handle that weight better and more. I've had 2500 pounds in my bed and it still wasn't bottomed out.

I think the Ridgeline has two major points over the F-150. Fuel economy and ride quality unloaded.

Both will hold their value very well vs. sales price.

Obviously you haven't tried to trade or sell a Ford lately.

Back to that point about safety:

"Ridgeline was the first and only 4-door pickup to achieve the highest government crash test rating (5 stars) for both frontal and side impact tests.* The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)† recognized Ridgeline for its standard front, side and side-curtain airbags, along with standard Vehicle Stability Assist (VSAŽ), ABS and brake assist.

*Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Ridgeline was tested with standard side-impact air bags (SABs).

†National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, May 2005"
-------------

so to take a guess, you'd probably be safer in an f150 in a massive frontal/rear crash, but the ridgeline would be better in a side impact (standard side air curtains) or at avoiding accidents altogether (abs w/brake assist + lower propensity to roll over ).

Well, looks like it's worthy of a test drive.
