I love my truck, but....

It should against the law to sell a full-sized truck that cannot carry a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bottom of the bed.

Having the smaller bed has not been a problem in the past, but twice this week it's bitten me...

First, I took my son camping last weekend and did not feel like towing the camper - no problem I have camper shell I'll just sleep in the back. Wrong! At 6'3" I was a little more than cramped. My son had a GREAT time though - said he liked it better than the camper. I quickly told him not to get used to that arrangement...

We bought a new grill for the house last night and I had to lay it on it's back due to the height of the camper shell (not the truck's fault) but then the bed was shorter than the overall length of the grill!! I had to twist the thing sideways, then cram the tailgate shut. All of this in front of a pair of Dodge and Chevy truck owners who were point and laughing. I felt like I was in an anti-Ford commercial.

Don't get me wrong, I still love the truck - I'm just venting! In fact, I leave next week for a 7-day camping/mountain biking trip and I'm taking the truck instead of my Jeep..talk about no room...

Personally, I'm glad the bed is short. I had a 70's crew cab with a full length bed and found the thing impossible to maneuver in town.

not to be smart or anything but did you buy the truck unseen? it's not like you didn't know it was a short box. my S'Crew is even shorter yet but i can still use the bed and just leave the gate down, not a big deal

If you need an 8-foot bed, buy a truck that has one.

Did someone point a gun to your head and make you buy a short bed?

I agree sometime it sucks, but thats what trailers are for. And they are the best looking trucks out there.

Mind if I pour salt on your wound? The Honda Ridgeline holds 4x8s flat if you put down the tailgate!

I never considered the Honda a truck before, but for many hauling a sheet of plywood or sheetrock is the only action our trucks will ever see.

I'm just wondering if I can get 4x8 sheetrock in a 5.5 screw bed? I assume I'll have to put a sheet of plywood under it and angle it off the closed tailgate? (I used to get sheetrock that way but w/o the plywood in my 6.5' bed).

Jon, I replied to your post in the other topic about hauling drywall. I've got a SCrew and have hauled 4x8 sheets with no problems. With the gate down the bed is nearly 7.5' so fully supports them.. I've also carried several sheets of 4x12 drywall by adding some 2x4s underneath to extend the support further out and had no problems.

I had an 02 Super Crew up until a few days ago and the only thing I did not like was that I couldn't get my quad in the back. Myself I will never have a long bed. My new F-250 is a short bed too!

Wow - you guys are amazing How did you know that I bought the truck sight-unseen, while at home, in the dark, with a stranger holding a gun to my head - telling me that it would fullfill all my full-sized truck fantasies?

If only I'd tought to carry everything I might possibly want to haul with me when I test drove it.

I love the truck - I would not have bought it if not. But, in my opinion, a truck that can easily pull close to 8,000 pounds should be able to carry a grill home from the store with out having to drop the tail gate, hook up a trailer, borrow a Honda Ridgeline or anything else.

I added the dealer option **** on the dash of "alter physical space" so I could fit more into the bed than the standard specs report.

It can, if you buy it with the right size bed.

Why is this so difficult to understand?

Ford offers beds in three sizes...... 5.5, 6.5, 8.0

Buy the one that suits your needs.

Simple.

Man..I couldn't even imagine my Screw with the 8' bed. It's hard enough finding parking spots sometimes as is.
I would have to put quarters in two meters when i go into Portlland.

Besides, then I would have a big gap in my shell when I put it on in the winter.

Ok, I'm asking an honest question here - seriously. Did Ford offer an 01-03 Screw with a longer bed? I bought this year and style truck because it was the one out of all the trucks available (new and used) that I liked the most.

I know you could get an extended cab with a longer bed, but I thought the 01-03 Screws only had the one option.

As far as I know, the 01-03 SuperCrew came with the 5.5 bed, only.

The 6.5 is available for the 2006 model Screw.

I know I've seen long bed Screws form previous years, but they may have be custom/conversion/special order units.

I know they were way too long to be a practical truck, and looked goofy as well.
