Garbage bags work for me because if I can't drive it in a day, I fly.
I prefer to drive but, my range is 700 miles tops.
That's about 13 hours, after that I can do better on a plane even with getting to airport an hour early, making connections, rental cars etc...

I do transfer them to the cab if I'm away from the truck and am uneasy about a stop location.

Also, my situation is solo, maybe three bags. Wouldn't work for a family of six so well.

I did the same thing as Serotta, the EsCarGo worked well, did the rubbermaid thing, bought the big footlockers, all worked well, but I now have an Undercover and a Bedrug on the 03 Supercrew and I love it. The good thing is I have a beater Toyota to use for the dirty work.

I modified an old roof top carrier (the ones people use on the tops of their cars). I can lock it and I chain it in the bed to keep it from going away. It keeps everyting nice and dry.

Truxedo Lo-Pro roll up cover here. Added some weatherstripping and it stays dry as a bone now. Also have a bed liner in there so no water comes up from the bottom.

yea we have our roof rack for our mini van that doesnt do roadtrips any more (1998 windstar 15o,ooo miles)

We just ran a long tarp around everything, close it up inside there, and we also have a pad lock on it, not to mention the two crappy key locks. And fully loaded that thing weighs like 200 pounds, and is like 2'x4'x4' so it would take atleast two people to move it loaded out of the truck.

It leaks a little bit, but by putting the tarp underneath our stuff too, it keeps it all really dry.

I just have a large tarp folded behind the rear seats, pull it out and put part underneath the luggage, and wrap it around the luggage. Haven't encountered much precipitation to worry about though.

I just let my stuff get wet.
I figure if you put on wet clothes you don't need to take a bath.

I throw my dirty clothes in the back too.
I put some soap in the pockets and pray for rain.
