I just had my upper control arm on the drivers side replaced. Never off roaded it and it has been that way since 6,000 miles. it was covered in the warranty. I had some banging noises when I took a turn or hit some bumpy road way.

Well it deffinitly was not the ball joints making the noise. The mechanic went on another ride with me and thinks it could only be the sway bar possibly thew end links went bad or the bushing it goes back on tue so I will let you know.

I replaced one on my 2001 Screw nad that solved my issue, it kinda creaked, popped ,groaned when i would hit RR tracks or go down a drive or over a curb.
What i meant to write was the idler arm, sorry, i was running 305/70/17 on mine and i replaced the idler arm. Issue went away

Ok went back they said its the sway bar bushings also my ride height was off so he leveled it out that made a diffrence off the bat even with the bad bushings. So I go to get the bushing put in and they are the wrong ones they are for 6200 or 6500 what ever it is and I have the 7800 sway bar so now I have to go back no biggy it only takes 30 min to put them in. I will let you know if this works.

Got the bushing put in and the front end is finnally knock, clunk or what ever free. It sounds so much better when I go over rough pavement. I still have to check out the pitman arm it seems that there is a problem with them on these trucks hopefully it is ok but it seems that my problem is solved to magarino ford for standing behind a product they sold you don't see that to often anymore.

Mine does it easiest with a left turn, off center, over broken pavement.

I checked around again last week and found out that my steering shaft under the rubber boot moves side to side and makes the noise. Halfway between the firewall and the steering box is where the shafts slide together.
I have posted in suspension asking about a cure, but last time I checked, no responses on steering shaft repair. I believe I did a decent search and still found no definite answer. Good luck and please post if you find a cure.

I know on the 97 F350's when the steering shaft on them would make noise you could remove it, pull it apart and coat the shaft with dielectric silicone and reassemble then reinstal. You might want to give this a try.

My 01 Screw makes some funky noise that I've never really tried to track down. It sounds almost like a chirp chirp chirp or a cricket or something. Very light metal on metal sound, BUT it is not my brakes, applying them makes no difference and the sound is speed sensitive. I figured it might be a bearing or something but now it sounnds like that's not it.
