Question 2001 S-crew headlights...

I want to improve my headlights on my '01. I guess I will go to Autozone or Wally World to buy new bulbs. I've seen some posts about the Silverstar(sylvania) bulbs. Which one will improve my lighting for the least $ ? I'm just wanting to replace the bulbs. Please help! Thanks, Lance in TX.

I saw the Silverstar fogs at my local parts store, I wish I would have seen them earlier. I had to replace both fog lights when I got this truck used, and the regular bulbs cost $13 each, the Silverstars were like $18 each for a much better bulb.

Oh well..........they are always on sale around here.......I'll keep an eye out for them.

Got my new edition of Consumer Reports yesterday and they had an article relating to silverstars, their competitors and gauged these aftermarket headlight sets with factory. They did extensive testing, the results are interesting and might have changed my mind on a purchase. In essence, it was said, they are brighter white but the distance seen is the same as factory - factory light is more on the yellow side. Just an observation! They did not specifically put them on an F-150 - so maybe their is a difference on this model. Am really curious about your Comments because I was going to purchase Silverstars? Semper Fi

whitecoltF150, get the 9005st for the fog lights. no modifications whatsoever and they work great. have had mine for 3 months now along with the headlights and i love them. the foglights have a retainer that you can unscrew and go over the bulb if you have any difficulties putting them on. i had no modifications to the housing at all other then one of them having to remove the retainer like i mentioned. took me 5 minutes.

as for the consumer report, they might not shine any further but the quaility of light is 100% better then stock, especially driving in fog or snow at night.

I think the silverstars are a big improvement over OEM. Can you tell the difference?

Forget the Silverstars, just buy a set of Sylvania HID's. My HID's are the best mod I've made to my truck thus far. I promise you won't be disappointed.

I read that report and for the most part is states that lights such as the Silverstars and others tested were brighter than OEM lights but the light was not projected further than the OEM lights. So basically you are not gaining a further field of view with the new bulbs. I would got with the COOL BLUE bulbs which are by Sylvania also. They have a whiter light and dont cost that much.

Are those still available? I thought I read somewhere on here that they were discontinued. Anyway, how much and where to buy? Do they use the stock headlight? I'm curious as to how much they are and how easy are they to get.

it's a direct fit, just unplug your old bulbs and put your new ones it, simple as that.

Unfortunately, they're discontinued. I purchased my set during Sylvania's close out sale on them. Keep checking ebay, you should be able to find a set.

Another task that may improve your headlights - polish your lenses. After time ozone causes the plastic to become dull but a good polishing will brighten them back to OEM quality. I used the Novus line of products to "clean up" the lenses on my 2001 King Ranch and along with the Sylvania Cool Blue
Halogen Headlight Bulbs I installed, I am very pleased with the improvement - at a lot less than the SilverStar's cost.

Hey Wandell, was that pic taken with the brights on?? I just replaced mine with the Silverstars and it's whiter and I guess brighter but havent seen how it works at night, I'll find out in about an hour here. The initial difference wasnt as drastic as yours but again it wasnt at night, just a rainy overcast late afternoon. Will report back after my drive
