If you are wanting to know how much weight to put in the bed for snowy and icy conditions, well I see you have a 4x4, and I think you will be alright. If you have a 2x4, you could through a few hundred pounds in the back, either snow or rocks or whatever. I grew up in West Virginia, in case you were wondering since I live in Louisiana now, so I now a little about driving in the snow and ice, unlike these people down here, when they get a little bit of snow and ice once a year and shut down everything. Good luck.

I was surprised to read somewhere that the weight distribution was 58/42 on the 4x4. I think I read it right, can't remember where.

If the truck were to be operated in 4x4 mode on ice/snow it seems it would handle better if it were closer to 50/50.

A full gas tank will bring down the 58/42 weight ratio but, it seems about 200 pounds would help.

I would think anything over 300 lbs would hurt more than help.
You really want to avoid 49/51 and greater.

I guess you should allow for snow accumulation in the bed so maybe even 200 lbs of manmade ballast is too much.

Just don't go crazy.

I put 240# of sand bags in the back of my truck behind the wheel. They definitely help out with a 2WD, without them, I'm sliding all over the place.

Check at your local hardware store to see if they have tube sand (no, not tube steak), as those are made to be put in the back of cars/trucks and use a more durable material for the bag so they wont break open.

Last year, I bought some random bags of sand, and one of them broke open... there is still sand in my bedrug from it

600-800lbs of tube sand will make it so you have to try to get stuck.

By the way, whats a bedrug?
