im 16 and i live in kentucky. something i have dreamed of for the last few years is getting an f150 (with a V8 of course) as my first car, and puttin an exhaust and some headers on it. I am familiar with the prices for used f150s, but i would like some extra advice on what i should go with. I was thinkin 94-2000 f150 with 4.6 or 5.4, and it would have to have 4 wheel drive, because i want muscle and i want to go places where others cant. It would have to be an extra cab, because i want some room in the back for more people. I want to spend anywhere from $2000-8000 for this truck. does anyone have advice on:

-year i should look for
-what engine (either 5.0, 5.8, 4.6, or 5.4) (dont think the V6s will give me the sound or power i want)
-what exhaust i should try to find ( i like flowmasters, and i want the throatiest, deepest sound i can get. i also like the crackling noise you get on some exhausts when you let off the revs a little bit)

Per your requirement of cost up to $8000, you won't get any late truck for that cost that is worth anything more than close to junk status and have to be repaired to make it servicable, unless you get lucky.
To meet that cost level I would look for an older 70s early 80s model F250 with a big block engine then work from there.
You get muscle, 4x4, sound and all the things you want and you get to work on it yet.

I went to an auction for my first truck. I am 15 and about to turn 16 and i got a 2001 F150 4x4 with the 5.4. It has step bars, bed liner, aftermarket rims. And in real good shape, alls i have done is put new bigger tires, exhaust, and replaced brakes because they squeek. I got it for 8600 and only 32000

 

You are in the supercrew forum, so are you looking for a truck with 4 forward swinging doors? These trucks only hit the market in 2001. They are only offered with a V8, auto tranny and a 5-1/2 foot bed, and no work/XL trim. Prices for a 2001 4X4 will start around $11,000, slightly lower for one in need of repair. If a cab with the rear backward opening doors (supercab) with a longer bed is what you really want, you should take this to the other forum.
