What is the best way to clean off mud?

The frame might be covered with mud/dirt, but what is holding the mud/dirt on is a layer of oil/grease. I cleaned my frame with some engine degreaser and a pressure washer and in some places i got out a wire brush and scraped. I didnt care about scratching it because i painted it afterwards. Hope that helps.
