Lift my truck?

I recently got a 4x2 2005 supercrew lariat. I am thinking about lifting so it looks like a 4x4. I know I need to get bigger tires(stock tires were 265's). How high should i get this truck lifted to make it look like a 4x4?

Thanks!

I've read the new 4x2's sit about 2 inches lower than the 4x4's. One of the 2.5 inch leveling kits and some lift blocks would be a good start. Of course, it would be a lot better to just install a 6 inch Fabtech or Pro Comp lift and be taller than the 4x4's.

I will never understand lifting 2 wheel drive to look like 4 wheel drive and lowering 4 wheel drive to look like 2 wheel drive.

I guess it would not have been less expensive in either case to purchase the desired look?????

I guess you don't understand lifting a 4x4 or lowering a 4x2 either. It's all about personalizing your truck and building it to suit your needs. Before discovering this site and FTW, I felt the same way. I didn't realize that some people bought 4x4's just so they could get to work in the snow and ice and never took them in the mud. I also didn't realize that some people's idea of "off roading" was driving across the desert at near 100mph and there was no need for 4 wheel drive, only lots of suspension travel.

You're like me. I doubt either of us ever see a lowered 4x4 in person unless we leave GA and CA.

why do you care what this guy does to his truck. He bought a little boy truck and he wants it to look like a big boy truck. What's so wrong about that?

Just kidding noleman! This truck is awesome looking as is and will look great with a nice leveling kit.

Hey hogfan, if you can't add constructive information to his post, why even post? No one cares what you do and don't understand. he can have the look of a four wheel drive for about 2500 less. Not everyone needs a 4x4 but it is a matter of personal taste.

I could definitely understand if this guy had posted up that he planned on running Baja or something similar. I am sorry that my criticism is not appreciated... I am not this guy's father and I should not be telling him what to do. He did say that he was THINKING about lifting it. I am not sure if that means that he is going to lift it for sure or not, but I thought that I would share my OPINION on what he should or should not do.

In my OPINION, I would think that lifting the 2wd truck will be of significant cost and MAY reduce re-sale value. How long does he plan on keeping the truck?? If he has plenty of money to throw away, then why didn't he get a 4wd in the first place.

I know all about customizing trucks and setting them up for individual wants/needs, that is what this site is all about and that is why I have been a member since I bought my F-150.

I hope that my criticism can be more constructive through this post. The beauty of the internet and message boards is that you can speak out and say things much more freely than you might otherwise.

By the way, check out Fabtech or RCD suspension. You can probably do a search here to find out more. I know that they made kits for pre-04 F-150's. I am not aware of their options for the newer models.

I am not wanting to lift it sky high. I am simply wanting to lift a couple inches. I did not buy a 4x4 b/c I would never use it. Also b/c of the maint on the 4x4. I guess I am wanting to gather info on how to raise the front to make it even with the back of the truck.
