LED 3rd Brake Light installation ???
I posted this in the Appearance forum as well, but I"m relying on my S-Crew brothers and sisters to save the day again!
I ordered my LED light from Kar Kraft (great item, Ford LED Brake/Cargo light..59.95 + s/h).. I go an remove my OE brake light, manage to remove the plastic plug that the OE wires go through, but have no idea as to where/who to unplug the OE light and plug in my LED light...
Do I somehow unplug the OE light or do I try splicing the LED light into the OE wires??
Any and all useful advice would be GREATLY apppreciated.
Thanks in advance..

First and foremost, secure your sister's help if she has tiny arms/hands.
What you'll have to do is drop the rear end of your headliner within the cab. It's a plug that runs from the unit out to a connector and, to my recollection, it's located on the passenger side almost immediately above where the rear passenger would be seated.
Fortunately, my wife is kind of tiny and thus, I had her reach up beneath the headliner to unplug and replug my LED (when I had it). She did this with a VERY minimal 'flex' in the headliner which did not leave any creases or similar.
Be patient... it can be a booger.
It may help if you have a rear sliding window to do EVERYTHING from the bed of the truck as it's a better angle to reach up and beneath the headliner...
Best of luck!

What Rockpick said. The point where it has a connector is attached to the roof of your truck. I pulled mine loose from the roof so I could pull the connector appart more easily, and I have a rear slider so I could get at it easier. To keep from creasing my headliner, I pulled the plastic plugs out of the headliner and removed the coat hooks and dropped it down just a little bit.
WHEW!!
WOW..that was ....interesting, to say the least. I finally got the LED installed, but it wasn't easy!!
I guess since I had Ford install my power moonroof after I bought the truck, they did some modification of their own to my headliner. I attempted to lower it like you guys said, but it wasn't going to budge. So I gently peeled the headliner cloth off the headliner, just to get a view of what ws under there. I find 2 self tapping screws and washers holding the headliner to the metal thats under the "roof".
A lot of the OE headliner had been cut out to make room for the power moonroof. So, I cut a little more and found the plug!
Everything after that was a breeze. I've got some 3M Spray Adhesive which I can use to reattach the headliner cloth I peeled down, but is there anything that I could use to replace the cut out headliner foam?? Would anything stick to the metal and stay stuck??
HUGE thanks to Rockpick and Greencrew..you gutys saved the ay again. Leave it to my S-Crew brothers....
Thanks again

Wow... you had to cut the foam!? Ouch!
I'm not sure what you could use to bond those two materials. The continous heating and cooling of the metal will play havoc on just about any type of adhesive but, I'm sure there's something out there that would work for this application.
BTW, if you all get together over in Frankfort, be sure to give me a buzz and I may swing over that way. It's a pretty easy drive from Lagrange...

RP,
Believe me, cutting the foam wasn't my first choice! But, there wasn't much left after Ford installed my power moonroof. I only cut about a 3x5" piece out. I'd like to put some kind of self sticking foam or Dynamat type material, but I don't kow what could stand the temp changes that the roof goes through. I'd hate for it to come loose and stick to my moonroof!!
I wonder if some type of Dynamat type material would work? I've seen some weather stripping type material that comes in 12"x12" sheet, but I can't remember wher I saw it. It had an adhesive backing....I'll think of it.
Speaking of weatherstripping, I added a strip of weatherstripping to the top of the LED light. It looked like there was going to be a small gap when the light was tightened down. I figured it couldn't hurt!
Getting all the "local" guys together sounds like a good idea, I'll see if I can find a good place. Maybe have lunch or something. Although, I'd be enbarrassed for you to see my truck, especially after all the detailing you do to yours!!
Thanks again for the help with the light...

i just cut and spliced mine. Used quick disconnects so i could remove and reinstall the old one quickly. Took me maybe 5min. easy job done. I wrapped in electrical tape just to make sure it didnt get moisture in the connections.
