The Good, The Bad ...No Uglies Yet!
Took a 3-year break from F-150's, but returned to the pack last Friday with the purchase of a 2005 5.4L XLT Screw. I really enjoyed my previos F-150's (1997, 1998 & a 2000) but the latest F-150's are another step forward. The ride quality and the (lack of) noise inside is excellent, and the amount of interior space seems much better.
The "bad"?
The heater control seems amazingly sensitive; move it the smallest amount and the heat/cool changes dramatically.
So far have been unable to reprogram the auto-door lock feature, and I need to adjust the time the lights stay on after using the remote fob to unlock.
By far my biggest issue was the oil filter. After putting 600+ miles on it with an Easter trip, I went to change the oil and came up against the "factory installed over-tightened" oil filter syndrome! After using 3 different removal tools (including destroying 2 of them by using a cheater bar) all I had was the top 2 inches of the filter case broken off and the filter elements and internals broken out!
Extremely frustrating that they feel the need to tighten these on so much - it's a common thing looking at the posts - why do they do this?
My final make-or-break attempt was an 18" pipe wrench at the root of the filter case which finally got the sucker moving. All after having removed the drive belts, air inlet and the oil catch trough (I thought the trough was a neat little idea until I discovered that on level ground, it lets oil run out the back and the front sides.).
I'm glad to be back on the board - was suprised to see my userid was still valid.
