Gold remote start install
Gold remote start install
I recently bought the Ford Gold Remote start to install on my 03' SuperCrew. I I've never installed something quite like this, but I hope I can do it. I wanted to know how it went for some of you guys that have done this yourself, how long it took and whatnot.
Also, any suggestions on the best place to mount the unit? Any info you guys have is a big help. Thanks!!

I had one put on my truck by the dealer after I got it.They down loaded the information on how to install from the maker about 400 + pages. There was a wire that was marked wrong on the install diag so they called the company and found out which wire to use.Other then a few adjustments the system works great.I talked to them about the install and they said they had a hook up wrong on some wire that needed to be on the other side of the truck.I think they changed the Gold system from what I have now and you can use the key pad now with out the alarm going off. What I've read on this site on installs is to have a meter to check your wires for power (not a light) and solder your hookups. You can do a search on here and read about others who have install systems their trucks. They have a number to call I you need help. Its a good system,so enjoy after you get it running.
Who's installed your own powercode system?
I bought Ford's Gold PowerCode system almost a year ago. I still haven't had (or I guess I should say, I haven't made time to try and install it). One of my biggest problems has been to figure out where to mount the control unit. I've downloaded the instructions found at www.gemsen.com/ford/ but still can't figure out where to mount the unit. The instructions say to mount it "Driver side kick panel high, near bulkhead panel." Pardon my ignorance, but what is the bulkhead panel? If anyone can lead me in the right direction, it would be very much appreciated. Pictures would be awesome too! If anyone in Georgia knows of a good installer that does these systems that would be great too...i may never get this system in, lol. Thanks!!!!!!!!

I've been trying to find someone who will install the PowerCode (Ford) systems. I have yet to find a dealer that will do it, they all seem to have a 3rd party installer do the work. Other security system installers wont touch it either. Right now...i'm probably leaning towards putting the system on ebay and getting another aftermarket put in.
KC,
I'm not sure if I want to attempt the install on my own. I consider myself to be pretty savy when it comes to electronics and such...but this might be a bit out of my league. I have installed multiple car stereos before...but never a remote start. What would your opinion be for someone that doesn't have a lot of experience installing such a system? Right now I have the Gold series Code system (p/n: 2w7z-19g364-aa). I also have the secuilok interface kit and the instructions downloaded from www.gemsen.com/ford. One of the first problems I ran into was the location to install the unit. I think the instructions said the "bulkhead" panel. Sorry...but I'm not sure of what that is...any ideas? I saw on your website that you can "pre-wire" systems? Is that something you could do for the oem equipment? If so, let me know and I'll contact you by e-mail if you don't mind.
Thanks so much for your advice!!!

IF you have read the installation instructions for the remote starter system, you have seen that it is one heck of a task - and not for the casual installer. Thank God that my system was installed by the FORD dealer (for exactness and warranty coverage) when the truck was new ( 2001 King Ranch 5.4L 4X4 ).
You'd be better off driving to KC's neck of the woods (if you can) and "git er done" by someone with (a) experience and (b) confidence in what he is doing. The minimal extra cost will not be that big of an expense if you think about the consequences if you decide to do it and you run into problems and your truck will not start (unable to get it to the stealership without a tow truck).
Just my 2 cents - it's what I would do if I were you.
Regards.
