I was thinking of useing my spare tire as a replacement for a tire that got sliced on the side wall. { blown out } having it mounted to the off road rim and buying a cheaper tire to use as a spare. it is not the cost just would like to use this tire and not let it go to waste hanging underneath. Is there a way to get the rub marks off the spare from hanging underneath. Has any body tried this or is it a waste of time ? 2001 supercrew lariat orp thanks guys

 

if its the same size and type then sure, why not.

In the old days people used to do 5 tire rotations.

The only caveat is that there is probably more tread on this vs the other 3 so you would have to ensure regular tire rotations.

 

Before I traded my 01 I used the spare with 3 new tires for replacement. The marks came out of the sidewalls after sveral weeks of driving around.

Then I put the best of the old three on the spare rim.
